I really like the message, but could they have said it in a less mildly distasteful Christian way? What about the fathers who lost children but don't believe in an afterlife?

This is a lot like responding with "Actually, I'm an atheist" when someone says "Bless you" after you sneeze.

You know what they meant, and you know the kind sentiment they were trying to get across. Nitpicking at it serves no one.
