Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

No Denmark on the graph is disappointing after Trump’s threats to Greenland.

We're from the UK. I think we should be aiming to be much much lower

Hey Vietnam, are you alright? 😵

I hate this timeline so much. Gestures broadly, I get it as someone who lives in the USA…

I’m afraid to engage in international tourism because the country I’m from, the United States, is a goddamn embarassment, and I’m would be apologizing everywhere I go, and silent otherwise.

We’re about to head out on a trip tomorrow and yeah, it’s kind of embarrassing. We always say we’re from California if asked, because that feels slightly less embarrassing, though the tech bros have now shown their true colors so it’s less effective than it used to be.

You could say you’re from Cascadia and hope they don’t have any follow up questions.

When I speak, I have vague hints of general commonwealth in my accent, cause I’ve always been lowkey ashamed of being here, except now it’s not so lowkey.

TIL: Norwegians are decisive people.

Vietnam is on position 4 (consider they were at war 55 years ago), where as most of NATO is at the bottom, even below Russia.

Charts without New Zealand

I just got back from running around town (our tiny Canadian village has a garage sale day today) and saw a trump hat at one of them for sale for 5 bucks.

I thought it amusing that they didn't want it anymore but still think it's worth something.

Then again they WERE also selling a 1960's style stationary bike for $40 bucks while just down the street was a newer one for free with a digital display.

Must been Pete Hoekstra’s red hat after being told to tone down the 51st state rhetoric.

Every Trump supporter who visits Canada should be chastised

That’s Israel being the most favourable of America.

And what the fucks with the sexism?

Third lowest after Norway and Sweden.

Came here to say that!

Why weren't Americans polled?

I meant Americans' views of their own country.

While just 47 per cent of American adults surveyed said Americans overall are morally good — the lowest score of any country — 92 per cent of Canadians had a positive moral view of other Canadians, tying with Indonesia at the top of the list.

That's a shocking difference of attitude.

That is a shocking difference in attitude. I’m not as familiar with Canadian laws but I believe that in the US, lack of media accountability and politicization/money play a large role in the problem. When the media is allowed to lie about facts and events, then lies proliferate with no consequential legal recourse to remedy the problem. The news should be backed by verifiable facts provable in court. Departures from that should be prosecuted and loose their news license. We won a big case against Fox News even in the slanted capitalist courts and it changed nothing because the sanction was a slap on the wrist compared to profits from fear mongering. I saw my grandparents fall down the Fox News hole and it was heartbreaking. In addition the current media consolidation trend should be prohibited because of monopolization principles. Billionaires should not own the press, it belongs to the people. With that framework in mind, the US public is being wildly manipulated to hate each other when we have more in common than anything. It’s actually working class vs. billionaires/trillionaire.

Our media has been pitting us against each other for decades. Conservatives think leftists are evil because of all the gay sex; leftists think conservatives are evil because of book banning. And they all think the ones who say they “aren’t political” are uninformed and ignorant. Obviously more examples than that but you get the gist. It’s become extremely tribal, so it’s not shocking to me at all.

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 1 points 38 minutes ago* (last edited 36 minutes ago)

I agree with much of what you have said however reducing why leftists dislike conservatives to book banning is disingenuous. They are forcing religious doctrines on everyone, starting wars with no rationale, removing reproductive and voting rights, the list goes on… The example of book banning is such a limited example of damage compared to high level relevant examples that it does not feel representative.

~~This kind of poll is so weird. It's such a broad, general question that I wouldn't know what to say for almost any country. Sure there's your handful of obvious shitheads and maybe two or three countries that I suppose I view "favourably" but for any other country I'd just shrug.~~

Edit. I'm half asleep and COMPLETELY misinterpreted the thing lol

What’s up with people in Thailand and China?

[–] timbyte@lemmy.ca 1 points 25 minutes ago

Lots of undecided people.

[–] Hermit_Lailoken@lemmy.world 0 points 2 hours ago

I don't blame them.
