Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has claimed “Russia is not the enemy of Britain” after he travelled to Moscow and met with Elon Musk’s father, Errol.

Elon Musk has long been a supporter of Robinson, with both men calling for people to take to the streets in response to the knife attack in Belfast.

Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, shared a list of places where protests were said to be taking place at 7pm on Tuesday following the Belfast attack, saying: “The whole of the United Kingdom is hitting the streets tonight at 7pm following yet another invader attack on our people.”

This fuck: "Russia is not the enemy of Britain"

Russia: "We're at war with NATO! (Which Britain is a part of.)"

Meanwhile the "not enemy of Britain" threatens with nuclear strike (pure friendly) https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-propagandist-threatens-uk-ireland-with-nuclear-strike-2022-5

funny how many nazis find friends and safe haven in Russia 🤔

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

But hexbear told me Ukraine is filled with Nazis! Why would they go to the place that is liberating Ukraine from nazis?!

[–] CascadeOfLight@hexbear.net 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's less filled with Nazis than it was previously

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Because they move to Russia

[–] CascadeOfLight@hexbear.net 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I guess that's true from their perspective, when the border moves past their corpse

Lemme know when Russia finally wins a battle, comrade. They thank you for your shitposting online, you're doing a good job for the war effort. Don't leave that basement and go outside for them, they would hate to have you die for their losing "3 days operation"

By contrast, since Ukraine is doing so well, it should be perfectly safe for you to go join their volksturm.

Imagine having to explain that headline to someone in 2015.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 2 points 4 days ago

If I was sent back to 2015, I would be a stranger in a strange land. There's so little of that zeitgeist left.

Can the nasty little turd stay there?

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 2 points 4 days ago

Wouldn’t make a difference. He’s been living in Spain for the last 5 years, still gets his shit takes in.

but tankies keep telling me Russia is fighting the ukrainazis - maybe Tommy is secretly an anti-imperialist??

[–] PunkMonk@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There is no ignoring the fact that on the grander geopolitical stage, Ukraine is on the side of Western imperialism, has a major nazi problem & supports Israel while Russia is allied with and supporting of many anti-imperialist nations and overall fights against the biggest enemy to our species - western capitalist domination, even if that does not come from some pure, ideal socialist position.

It's a horrible conflict with neither side being 'good', ideally I would want for Ukrainans and Russians to live peacefully and in harmony with one another, like they mostly did under the USSR. Also, it is not like there was zero provocation against Russia before their invasion, I would recommend you do some looking into the events that lead up to the war.

Yours sincerely, 'Tankie'

What if Ukrainians don't want to live under the boot of Moscow though?

[–] PunkMonk@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Why under the ideal, imagined scenario I present does your brainwashed mind still have to have Russia as some big evil oppressive nation lmao

[–] moderatecentrist@feddit.uk 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think Russia is a pretty oppressive nation.

  • Here's an article about a Russian who publicly opposed the invasion of Ukraine, leading to him getting a sentence of 25 years in prison.
  • Here's an article about Alexei Navalny, an opposition politician, getting a Russian intelligence officer to admit that the FSB (Russian government agency) poisoned Navalny. Why is the Russian state poisoning opposition politicians?
[–] PunkMonk@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 days ago

ideal, imagined scenario.

Not Russia still ruled by the capitalist oligarchy.

ideal, imagined scenario.

I also think Russia under their current ruling class and mode of production is an oppressive nation, but I was talking about an....
