Does he believe that Zelenskiy would attempt killing him or what. Eats his own propaganda probably

The allies should have tried that in World War II

Dear Mr Hitler, we extend to you our invitation to attend "talks" over tea and crumpets. Your sincerely Winston Churchill,

PS sorry about the smudges, I was laughing while I was writing this.

Can't say I'm surprised by his rejection.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 46 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Zelenskyy would have to be foolish to expect anything else at this point, so this had to have been for another reason. Possibly to prove that Putin remains a terrible person and to keep the conflict in the news.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

Obviously. There was a reason for the letter to be publicly available. Now on top of all other things, Zelenskyy is yet agian publicly the peace guyy and Putin yet again the war mongering asshole

Yeah. This way people can't say "oH bUt HaVe YoU tRiEd sPeAkINg wiTh hiM"

To have a clear consciousness for when Ukraine wrecks Russia? A sort of "Remember, you asked for this."

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'd love to see it but I can't realistically see it happening. Unless Europe gets much more serious with giving Ukraine more weapons

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

This past week, Ukraine started hitting closer to cities again, there was some propaganda going around about a school getting hit by a Ukrainian strike and Zelenskyy being another civilian murderer. So yeah, there's always a need to press on the "I did try to talk peace" angle over and over.

Ukraine makes their own and Europe did give them several billions to work with. The thing they don't have is ballistic missile defense, that's still a big issue.

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And Russia is ramping up those attacks.

There will be no winners in this stupid war I’m afraid.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

"War is not about who is right, but who is left."

... But for all intents and purposes, it'd be better for all if Ukraine remains standing.

Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

Absolutely, but it will be, or rather already is at the cost of many Ukrainian lives, their economy, and probably thousands of square kms that they will not regain from Russia.

Winning is something else in my mind.

The motive that makes sense to me is that Zelensky is really speaking to everyone else in Russia who might be exhausted with the war, and seeking to embolden them. Ukraine can now do this from a position of strength, where Russia simply cannot protect their own airspace.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Ukrainians know how Russians think. If he was genuinely thinking he could request a meeting with someone who has personally ordered his death, he'd have to be stupider than Prigozhin. No, this was absolutely a power move, and a clear signal to Russians that Putin is weak.

He's publicly showing insecurity. He knows he's fucked up and that it's only a matter of time that Russia turns on him.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe he's trying to wipe out more of his military in Ukraine first so there'll be fewer soldiers to storm his bunker when it all falls apart.

[–] Greyghoster@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago

I’ve seen an article saying Putin is exploring lowering the start working age to 12 to make up for the million men he has removed from the workforce. I assume that they were all men as there aren’t many reports of women in the Russian front lines.

Just like Russia, any other country could lose access to their legitimate assets in dollars or euros, as well as western financial and payment systems.

Switching to a different system just puts you in the hands of a different master. In any case, Russia is in no position to complain about the seizure of its assets abroad as compensation after destroying far more Ukrainian assets in its invasion and occupation.

A rude letter? And after Vladdy took such care to mostly bomb civilians!
