What is enshittification?

The phenomenon of online platforms gradually degrading the quality of their services, often by promoting advertisements and sponsored content, in order to increase profits. (Cory Doctorow, 2022, extracted from Wikitionary) source

The lifecycle of Big Internet

We discuss how predatory big tech platforms live and die by luring people in and then decaying for profit.

Embrace, extend and extinguish

We also discuss how naturally open technologies like the Fediverse can be susceptible to corporate takeovers, rugpulls and subsequent enshittification.

I cancelled my Amazon prime account years ago and don't miss it like I feared I would. Announcements like this only reaffirm that I made the right choice.

Thats the worst way of doing this. You never take away things people already had and then ask them to pay for it. I know i would never continue to use this if they did that. Never used it, but I hear its awful anyway.

they've done it before, they'll do it again.. and again.. and again.. because people keep giving them more money.

Prime sucks

Bezos is a fuckwad

Prime video now has ads

Prime music now has ads

They now make me box up returns and find a physical printer to print my own return postage rather than the more convenient drop off at location.

Easy solution for me. Fuck off Amazon. Sub cancelled

Yes to all except printing. It doesn’t always require a label.

Some things they’ve even said keep it and here’s your replacement.

The Amazon Music app for android is garbage.

Is there anything at all that comes from Amazon that isn't garbage?

In my experience most of their drivers are pretty nice despite the abhorrent work conditions

…other than that? Not that I can think of….
