On a recent post, there were a lot of comments, which said that they were missing the headphones on newer mobile devices.

How many actually use the headphone jack?

I ask, because I have one on my phone, since I really wanted one, but I rarely use it. Like Tops 1/Month.

Every day, for msny hours

[–] Floey@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

I use it sometimes, but used it regularly for music until I busted out an old iPod.

I don't.

I'm a bit clumsy (ADHD) and having a cable attached to my body attached to a €1000 device is asking for trouble. I hate the cable getting tangled up, caught on things etc.

I use Bluetooth headphones every day, for most of the day. Despite that, there are times where i forget to charge them the night before, or something else goes wrong, and I use wired headphones.

If I got a phone without a headphone jack, I don't think it'd be much of a problem, until it is. I'd need it, and suddenly realized I don't have it.

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I use it all the time. And I would argue that the question should be "what's the intelligence distribution of people using cabled data links over those preferring wireless?" :p

[–] hark@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

At least once a week. Will be a shame when I eventually move onto a phone without a jack.

it's the olny way i can use headphones right now since I don't have wireless headphones

Would be using it pretty much every day, my car doesn't have bluetooth so I need to rely on a casette to aux converter that I stick in the tape slot. Then I end up needing to plug my (jackless) phone into a lightning to aux dongle, plug that into the aux for the cassette converter, and then finally swap to the tape deck. Super annoying and would be slightly less-so with a jack.

Have you tried a Bluetooth FM transmitter? I have one plugged into the cigarette lighter that my phone connects to and I just tune my radio into the same frequency to hear it. They're pretty cheap and even has buttons on it to skip tracks.

[–] pastaPersona@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I would but the cigarette lighter doesn’t work (wiring issues w/ the car 🙃)

[–] Mocheeze@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I got a Bluetooth tape adapter. Had to try a few because some are real ass.

[–] Fades@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Never, Bluetooth adapter in the car, AirPods otherwise. FUCK cords

[–] ndupont@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I've been using my wire headphones for over 10 years until recently. I've moved to Shockz, it's more convenient but the sound lacks bass.

[–] Ozymati@lemmy.nz 2 points 2 years ago

Rarely, but I like knowing it's there if my headphones run out of battery and I need to join a meeting or make a call.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

Daily, I drive an 01 cherokee sport base model. This means I have a tape deck and fuck all else.

[–] Sacha@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Currently never, but that's because i dont go out much. If I went out more, even just for jogging. I would be extremely frustrated that my current phone doesn't have a jack. Currently I have to have to so everyone around me can hear my phone as I don't have a converted or a wireless headphone.

[–] ExLisper@linux.community 2 points 2 years ago

I use it less and less. I was still using wired headphones quite often when I got my current phone couple years ago but since then I switched to BT in like 95% of cases. The remaining 5% is mostly travelling. Noise cancelling headphones are too big to carry and small BT headphones don't have enough battery for a long trip. In a couple of years when I'll be changing my phone it will still be be really nice to have mini jack in it but if there's no reasonable option I might do without.

I don't have one. When I did I used it every day.

Now I have a stupid dongle which I use nearly every day.

Me, at least once a week

[–] fubbernuckin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I use it every day on my way to work and most nights before bed.

[–] supercriticalcheese@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

All my headphones are wired so daily. I have a dongle for an iPad I use frequently and it works fine but charging it is a drain.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

I use IEMs and wired headphones. Having a headphone jack would be game changer since I can charge and play music at the same time (I don't want to buy a 2 in 1 dongle).

[–] Iamdanno@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

What's a headphone jack?

JK, I used to use mine a lot, when I had one. I was sad to see it go, but I've moved on. I can use the USB-C port just as easily, if I want to.

The only thing I miss it for is plugging into the car. I've got Bluetooth adapters now though that work pretty well. In theory I might run into a situation where it would be nice to be able to plug into a speaker or someone else's car or something, but BT is so common it doesn't really come up.

When I got my iPhone without a headphone jack, I went out and bought a nice Bluetooth headset. I did use it a lot at the time, but just recently rediscovered it after a couple years lost. It turns out that I prefer speakers for audio/video and only use headphones for calls … for work I prefer wired headphones because they always work, whereas Bluetooth keeps begetting confused whether I am in the office or at home, but that’s not in mobile

[–] refreeze@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I used to, but recent budget wireless (Earfun, Soundcore, et al.) are getting good enough to compete with wired for me. Having things like multipoint pairing which is obviously not possible with wired is hard to go back from once you get used to it.

I dont have a headphone jack but I have a dongle to use some sound isolating earbuds while I ride my motorcycle my last trip was about 6ish hours and I dont think there are many wireless earbuds that would last that long

The earbuds were like $20 and have an actual nrr my $90 airpods sound way more tinny in addition to not fitting as well and leaking sound

[–] Fake4000@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I use my earbuds most of the time for music and podcasts, but the wires ones are mainly for gaming because of latency.
