One of them, lawyer Chow Hang-tung, said in an online post published last weekend that she would go on a 37-hour hunger strike in prison. “Behind the glitter of power and dictatorship lies the blood and broken dreams of ordinary people. For in amnesia lies the demise of democracy,” she wrote.

Emphasis mine.

That is such a salient point.

Hey tankies, how do you spin this?

Tankies will say the inevitable and predictable line about how we all just believe western propaganda, and that this never happened. And the propaganda that they listen to is always correct about China. It's how they always spin this.

It would be a lot less annoying if they weren’t constantly stifling discussion around it to the point that I’ve literally never even seen a single person defend the position and instead just say the line that you just said like it’s all the defense they need and then ban people.

the "those were crisis actors" of "left"ists

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 4 points 1 month ago

Well of course their propaganda is always correct about China. It comes from the Chinese government. Just like everything the US government puts out is correct. Always trust the state kids. The state never lies, and never abuses is power. Very /s

Also something something color revolution

The Tiananmen Square massacre never happened, and that's why they're not allowed to talk about it. Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"no students were harmed. The armed rioters outside the square were killed in combat that they initiated and refused to back down from. They had to be stopped because they were destroying the city and harming the citizens.

Ofc the Chinese government won't let people celebrate citizen murdering, capitalist funded, armed rioters"

I'm pretty sure they'd say exactly that.

The ground them into paste with tank treads and washed their remains into the sewers. There's photos of that online...

It took so long to break the protest because they had to assemble forces from across China since locals were too sympathetic and wouldn't wantonly slaughter them if they refused to back down once confronted by the state. The state wasn't willing to risk that until it had a gun that fired when commanded.

"But tankman didn't get killed on video! Checkmate, shitlib!" /s

[–] edible_funk@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

I'd love to hear cowbee bullshit spin this one.

[–] ruuster13@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago

Tankies won't respond. In celebration of a canon event, federal netizens were notified by Xi-Think-Link that they have been given the day off work.

37 hour hunger strike? With my budget that’s called a Wednesday.

[–] passenger@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

Something something anglosphere and other braindead mutterings

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Have you ever seen an interview with one of the “dead students”? No? Thought not…

Lmao. An amusing lack of ml accounts here in a tienamin thread after 20 hours. Hmmmm

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Sorry, I was busy jorkin it to photos of tanks on Wikipedia, and lost track of time 😔

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago

It's kind of eerie... like the calm before a storm...

Twelve hours from now we're all going to be bombarded by the same two accounts hurling insults and accusations without any substance, and never actually making a coherent point...

[–] passenger@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Tankies get annoyed when called tankies but when tank man is posted they literally take the tanks' side

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

They'll say "Yes, anyone who disagrees with you is a tankie" sarcastically as if we didn't have a legitimate reason for calling them tankies, while we're perfectly capable of disagreeing with people who aren't tankies without calling them tankies.

But then suddenly whenever someone disagrees with them they go all-out "liberal fascist zionist scum!", disregarding all context and nuance and with basically no support for those labels...

Strange... almost like the "every accusation is a confession" applies to extremist hypocrites on both sides of the political spectrum... weird...

Tanks don't kill people. Agents of the state do!

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Rubio says you can't erase the past?

Meanwhile the Trump administration removes all historical references to women and minorities!

Can't make this shit up. Two hypocritical nations lying to themselves.
