Why are they still in EU? Isn't it time to revoke their membership card and benefits?

Slovakia elected Fico who'll shield Orban from article 7 now that Kaczynski is gone in Poland.

[-] CJOtheReal@ani.social 12 points 11 months ago

This shielding right should be abolished, just a regular vote should be more than enough.

[-] sic_1@feddit.de 5 points 11 months ago

Orban would vote against that.

Can't wait for a multi-tiered EU. I see that as the only feasible option to have progress on so many issues. Any useful reform of the current EU will just be blocked by that guy and it's not like we can expect someone else in charge of Hungary anytime soon...

Take a lesson from groupchats, start a "EU-without-Viktor" alliance

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Hungary's right-wing populist government approved the law to defend against the alleged rise of undue political interference by foreign persons or groups.

Independent media outlets and rights groups on Wednesday condemned legislation passed by Hungary's right-wing populist government that will allow authorities to investigate and prosecute people accused of undermining the country's sovereignty.

It calls for the creation of a new government authority that will have the power to gather information on any groups or individuals that benefit from foreign funding and that influence public debate.

The country's right-wing prime minister, Viktor Orbán, has long been accused of taking over the majority of Hungary's media and building an autocratic political system that undermines democratic norms.

Representatives of 10 independent news outlets signed an open letter decrying the law, saying the Hungarian government had unjustly accused them of "serving foreign interests."

The groups called the legislation “nothing more than a political propaganda project built upon secret service methods” and charged that it violates Hungary's constitutional, international and EU obligations.

The original article contains 449 words, the summary contains 167 words. Saved 63%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!
