Is "pro-hunting" in this case "let's ignore the epidemic of guns in schools" or is it "responsible use of guns is fine, but I will fight to stop the murder of children"?

Because there is a world of difference to me, and "pro-hunting" says fuck-all.

And this is why Dems will continue to lose the vote of the single issue voters who are voting red because of guns.

Stop trying to ban them or create bullshit laws that do not effect the violence. All it does is lose votes and seats.

Focus on the shit that will effect the violence as a whole. Single payer, help unions, spend way more on education, smaller class sizes, end the war on drugs, safety nets for people...a ton of things that will get votes and will actually drop the rate of violence in the USA....but nope go run around shouting about banning black plastic rifles cause "think of the children"...

This is the problem. "Maybe we should have some kind of reasonable access restrictions" -> "Take away all the guns!"

Just asking the question is interpreted as supporting draconian gun control. Or, worse, any gun control is seen as draconian.

I'm fine with right to gun ownership for most people, but put some limits around mental health and violent history. There are people who own guns for lots of legitimate reasons from hunting to self defense to fun. It's all good when those people are stable.

And I agree many of the proposals do little to attempt actual solutions.

Dems get control of VA....first thing they do is an AWB which doesn't do shit for gun violence. So yes the slope isn't just slippery, it's usually a cliff.

Who's the ones saying that you're mentally stable? Remember maga thinks anyone who is LGBTQ+ is mentally ill.

People who have a violent history are already not allowed to own firearms.

And I agree many of the proposals do little to attempt actual solutions.

The solutions are things that don't need more firearm legislation.

Americans the big strong people who don't feel safe unless they are packing a gun with them.

Or try to do like Europe where most guns are banned and we don't have school genocides every five minutes. Just saying.

You also handle giving a fuck about your citizens...so not even the same thing.

Media really stepping on their own dick with this title. Nobody cares about a guy who likes hunting being in the Democratic party, even a little. What they care about is common sense gun legislation, healthcare, skyrocketing price of living, and ruining the planet. All of these come back to corporate greed controlling policy.

Hunting lowers demand for factory farmed meat

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

If we all ate only hunted meat, we would wipe out every land mammal on the entire planet in little more than a single day. This is not an exaggeration. If you want to eat meat, factory farming is not optional. But eating meat is. The more meat you eat, the younger you die, and the more major diseases you experience.

Humans and livestock make up 95% of the mammals on Earth. If we hunted all our food, we would wipe out life on Earth almost immediately.

One deer can feed a family of four for about 6 months.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I see you are resistant to processing this very simple fact, but it's okay, I can break it down for you.

There are 2.7 million tonnes of raw white-tailed deer. There are 390 million tonnes of humanity across 8.3 billion individuals. Lets generously assume every fucking gram of those deer are edible and yield about 1,500 kcal per kg. That gives humanity food for LESS THAN SIX FUCKING HOURS.

You just wiped out every white-tailed deer. A couple hours after that, you've wiped out every deer on Earth.

Now what the fuck do we do? Deer make up one fifth to one quarter of all wild land mammal biomass, and you just ate it in a fucking afternoon. Keep eating wild animals and there are ZERO wild animals left at the end of the next day. Do the fucking math.

Why don't you read the original comment again and decide whether you want to respond to THAT, or if you are going to respond to the voices in your head a second time.
