How the controller works without Steam running.
I hope on Linux it works (or will work) the same as the Steam Deck's controller. There you can switch to gamepad mode by holding down the start button for 3 seconds or so.
Has anyone tried the steam controller on an Nvidia shield, even via steam streaming? Very curious to know if that works alright...
The right trackpad will show a mouse on the screen and clicking the pad will function as selecting what you are hovering over. Left trackpad can scroll. This is with the puck plugged into the shield. I can do some more testing in a few hours.
Thank you!
After connecting the controller to the Shield via Bluetooth, I am able to navigate the menus with the D-pad. For some reason I wasn't able to use the controller to use the on-screen keyboard when searching, either using the D-pad or the right touchpad as a mouse. Maybe I am missing something there. I installed the Steam Link app and steam recognizes it as the Steam controller with all the functionality you would expect.
Cries in still waiting for the reservation email. Reserved mine on May 9th, want nooooowww!!
cries in doesnt ship where i live
I skimmed the post so maybe I missed this but this is the guide button chords (or something like that) in the advanced controller settings, I have a few extra things on dpad like enter escape tab and adding a video marker. Honestly only use case I have for those specifically is to be a mode shift with extra steps cus one game I have (Jump space) I have exit and interact as the same button which leads to some funkiness in particular situation
Apart from that being able to adjust volume and a few other stuff on my keyboard without having to reach over is nice (oh my god walle was right)
Here is the default binding, only I swapped left and right. So right click is on the right
This is the location in steam where you can find this menu

Steam button + R1 for screenshot is easy to remember because it's like clicking the button on a camera
Ah yes map lizard keys to force kill game because that can be done without steam.. ? Or hm wait this thing has a micro controller?
