CALL HER! Silly slow them.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 points 2 hours ago

Went from hoping to sneak out early to working late with the trade off of not working tomorrow*. Annoying but worth it.

(*provided there are no major disasters that I need to help with)

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 2 hours ago

Pakidge! Always feels bloody weird to have to use Boyo's legal rather than use name. Never called him that and never will!

Doing a little day trip with penguin boy tomorrow before I go on placement and he starts a new job. It's only been a couple of months but I'm just really surprised that I managed to find someone so wonderful :)

I learned about one little gem of a change hidden in the new budget: they will be making access to any Standards which are referred to in legislation free. Which is great news, there never should have been payment required to find out what your legal obligations are.

I was trying to look up what requirements were for Test and Tag on electrical equipment once, it's spread over three different standards. Each one is somewhere around $100, so it would have cost hundreds just to be able to look at what was in the end just a few sentences. Access to the law is supposed to be free, it's appalling that they were able to charge for access to it just by calling it a 'standard' instead of 'legistlation' and it is something that should have been fixed a very long time ago.

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 4 hours ago

for businesses, apparently. The fact they were ever paywalled is absolute insanity.

fucking howard.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, the price of Standards is bonkers. Especially the International ones. Work buys e-access packages with eye watering prices and still doesn't have all of these.

I keep thinking of more benefits to this - our Facilities Manager at work won't be able to lie to us about things meeting the Standards when they don't because we'll actually have access to the Standards! We might be able to get a couple of issues with the kitchens at work fixed finally.

I've also thought of a couple more times I've wanted to access Standards for minor things - looking up requirements for labelling pet treats and labelling clothing when I've had a fancy to maybe sell a few of my creations at a market. It's very offputting to know there are laws that cover what you want to do but you are not able to find out what they are without paying an excessive amount.

Thanks for all of the love yesterday, Boyo and I had a lovely dinner out! The food was excellent, service so so.

Maybe I'm just a snob.Call me out if I'm being up myself, but at a restaurant that touts itself as being in the top 12 most romantic venues in Victoria, getting greeted and seated someone wearing trackies and uggs didn't really work to set the mood. Maybe she was called in last second to cover an absence.

Also, no offer to order drinks past our first glasses of bubbles made me sad. Maybe I upset them by asking for a glass of ice?

Either way, we had a great night going over many of the adventures and laughs we've shared during our relationship and lightly thinking about what's next!

Hope everyone has an excellent day! ๐Ÿ˜˜

I am very curious to know where this was.

Glad you had a great night!

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 5 points 8 hours ago

Trackies and uggs at a hipster cafe, maybe passable? But at a fancy restaurant? Nope thatโ€™s just rude. People are paying good money for a nice night out, and the ambience is as much a part of the experience as the food. Good that you had a nice time regardless!

Submit a Google review. It definitely helps others choose a spot.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 points 6 hours ago

I'm a big fan of the ol' google review ๐Ÿ˜… I've written many!

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 9 hours ago

Nah that's not picky at all. Good thing is you'll laugh about it in years to come. Glad you had a great night out despite the slob. โค๏ธ

no offer to order drinks past our first glasses of bubbles made me sad

Hrmm odd.

All the bougie places I've been to there's always a waiter walking around occasionally asking if you want another drink. Poor!

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

We've had lovely evenings there before so am thinking it was just an off night. We only go once a year though, so possibly just declining service.

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 5 points 8 hours ago (5 children)

This tum tum bug is doing my head in. Day 5 now :(

Thought it turned the corner but nope.

Doing all the right things (BRAT etc.). Shitload of water.

C'mon tum tum.. get your shit together (literally). I just need a few hrs of uninterrupted sleep.

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 4 hours ago

So yeah fun fact if you need the impetus: "Stomach flu" is how my burkitt's lymphoma manifested.

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Agree with others, thatโ€™s not a normal bug. Food poisoning is usually 24hrs max, gastro can be up to 2 days, max 3 if itโ€™s really bad. Not being able to sleep for more than a few hours isnโ€™t good. This probably needs a doctors visit.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Have you been to a doctor? That's a long time for a standard bug. The last person I know who had that sort of ongoing issue had picked up a nasty parasite in Bali.

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Not to a GP yet but will next week if things don't change. It's a bugger of a bug.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

If it's been going this long you really should go now. Most stomach bugs don't last more than about 24 hours, this really does sound like something more serious. The longer whatever it is has to establish the harder it is to get rid of and you could be turning a minor problem into something major.

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 points 5 hours ago

Yea you're right. Booked for tm. blegh.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's ages. Sure it's a bug?

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Pretty sure. Probs I caught it going out last Fri. P's went away until Sun. Felt it Sunday morning, one day later ol' boy got the same thing. ugh.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 6 hours ago

Google search of multiple places say you should seek medical attention if symptoms go longer than 3 days, you are well past that already. I know it's great having your username be so appropriate, but it's not worth risking your health just for that.

I think you got your mother's stubborness in regards to medical care.

Had one before bed last night and same ol' :(

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 9 hours ago

YL would like an orange & poppy seed cake for her birthday but I might surprise her with this instead.

[โ€“] SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 points 9 hours ago

Had a restless sleep last night. Got lots to do today, first coffee is already drunk, and I feel Iโ€™m gonna need another by mid morning.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

First.

been 3 weeks since the trains started again

Still not tired of living across the road from the station , it's so close it's like having a personal, not public, train. I reckon 15 seconds to the platform from my front door. And it's a lovely shady street too.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I had that situation years ago, could hear the train coming and dash out. Downside was when the Uni bar closed there was a raucous migration on the overpass

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 7 hours ago

This place is as quiet as a train station in a classic Western movie and looks like it too. It's a lovely little place. Whistle blows, train stops, one person might get off, one gets on.

What you need are dry saladas, and black tea.

Oooh haven't had devils on horseback for too long - could I have some too please and a brandy alexander.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 points 7 hours ago

I did them for a work function a few years ago and they were a massive hit. I don't think they are very common any more so a lot of the younger people especially had never heard of them. I read that some people stuff the prune with either cheese, almond or apricot, so I used one of the flavoured cream cheeses with apricot and almond and it worked really well.
