The number of aspiring investors who are outraged by negative gearing changes whilst seemingly having no grasp of what negative gearing actually is is rather appalling.

Yes. Dealing with such persons all day today. I am sooooo over the greed of the mittle classes. Did have an enjoyable argufication with an accountant over capital gains tax, which was enlightening, if rather loud. I am rather looking forward to seeing house prices stabilise and real estate professionals getting called out for their rampant greed and their other sins of commission (pun intended). The downside of the new budget provisions is that there is now very little inherent motivation for landlords to keep maintaining properties properly. Which is going to bounce back and bite tenants in ways we haven't seen before. Watch this space.

Asked the Android Auto google assistant a question this morning "What time is it in Las Vegas" and yes, it answered, but it also started asking me WHY I wanted to know: "It is 3:15pm in Las Vegas. You're driving, are you heading to Las Vegas or are you just curious?" NO. NO. NO.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

oh yes, mine switched over to gemini rather then the boring but amazinging reliable android auto assistant. No thank you I don't want to have "natural conversations" with my car. I want you to txt person X that I'm on my way and show my maps on the screen.

Hope Melba is ok. If you’re reading these I’m sending good vibes.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks, I’m just exhausted and taking some time for myself.

So not to be rude but uh, this place is like dead dead... right?

Just curious to know what happened? It used to be like... poppin so much more than the r/Melbourne daily but now it seems there's very few of the old transfers here....

Maybe it's just me

Oh god did I do something???

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

Kinda funny you say that, we've had a few meetups and get-togethers this year already, which feels active to me. I like the slow days here just as much as the fast days, I don't think it always has to be 100% all the time, we're all human and have work and friends and shit to do.

Besides, don't really see you posting a lot here either, but maybe that's just me πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

No I don't think you did anything. It has quieted down a bit from last year - but I reckon it'll be back up and running when we all get to feeling like it again. Baku turned up again a few days ago.

Some people left because they need a bigger audience. The people who stayed here actually like each other. We're a cosy little family.

I reckon reddit will push a bunch more people our way soon enough. I'm banned anyway.

Made ramen tonight with some bangin' Italian bangers from Piedmontes, bisected cherry toms and half an avo with wholemeal noodes and a squirt of sriracha in the broth. Put a cube of ham stock in the liquid too for extra smooothness. Am feeling warm and very content rn.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Bill had some too because he was being such a good cat 😺

I came up with a brilliant way to administer meds (pill and liquid) to this dog. I filled cooked pasta shells with them. He gobbles them up no problems.

It came to me when I was eating my dinner while being watched.

There's a family with some nerdy kids that have turned up to trivia the past two weeks, last week they had a hand drawn periodic table with them.

I was telling the mum and one of the kids this week she should give the boys an old laptop, let them figure out how to put Linux on it, learn git, then learn to make a game in Godot. I hope they can pick up some things like that to help feed their curiosity and build some skills to last a lifetime.

Is this a tram or an oven?

I just watched the final 90 min long good omens final (S1 was a version of the Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett book, S2 was a beloved extension, S3 was canned when NG was plausibly accused of being a total creep.). S3 got saved as a 90m one episode without NG. Without spoilers I loved it. It felt like the PTerry estate was quite involved because it was funny and sweet. There was a nice nod to Terry Pratchett in one scene that had me in tears.

Went to Reddit after...oh boy...some fandoms are...not great...it's kinda sad when people get so involved in stuff they need it to be a certain way to validate themselves or something?? I forget because I am so selective in what I engage with.

Anyway just needed somewhere nice to think my thougts

Just saw there used to be a guy at work called Keith Richards. I would find that very distracting if he was still here

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago

A Vietnamese guy started at my husband's work named Kitt. "Kitt? As in the Knight Rider car?" My husband asked enthusiastically. "YES! That's who my parents named me after". They're best buds now.
