Yeah, the tariffs have really worked wonders so far. Glad we're replaying last year's hits.

US citizens pay the tariffs and their tax money compensates companies after next court ruling tariffs illegal.
So no worries, none of your tax-robbing billionairs will be harmed.

I'd imagine this has more to do with European automakers starting to go hard into Electric cars and those cars being significantly better than 'Teslers'

BYD, etc are still tariffed to be moon in USA, so European is the next best thing.

most European electric autos, also use parts and/or designs from china as well... which is a complicated issues in US imports...

Why is this not covered under the SCOTUS decision? Not even going to pretend to comply with the law anymore?

This time is different. As in literally the time is different. It's May 2026 now and this is a new illegal order.

And BMW is the US largest exporter of vehicles. Maybe they will take their production elsewhere.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Why? They produce in the US, they won't have to pay tariffs AFAIK

Not sure who this will even affect. Most foreign manufacturers selling in the US build those cars in the US.

[–] Enoril@jlai.lu 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Doesn't these tariffs include also car pieces / materials imported to the US before being used / integrated into the car?

Car being composed from thousands of equipments manufactured outside the US, i can't see how they can totally avoid US tariffs.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Eh sure, but that also applies to the competition.

[–] endlesseden@pyfedi.deep-rose.org 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

what competition...

honestly this seems like another Tesla first decision...

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

Tesla's materials also get more expensive if everyone else's does though. That's why I'm saying it's not actually an advantage for American manufacturers even if Trump wants it to be. They pay the tariffs on materials same as everyone else and the Europeans, Japanese and Koreans build their cars in the US too.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Because the US is becoming less of an important market to be in.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 weeks ago

China won't let them compete with domestics for long. NA continues to be among the two most important markets for European and American manufacturers.

Why don’t they just stick him in some back room with a stack of fake trade deal documents to sign?

can they put bars around it, paint th walls gold and call it the security oval office... ?

[–] brem@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

I'm pretty sure he has dementia & thus nothing he has done is legal or standing (by law). I'm not a doctor, but I cannot allow his decisions to be declared sane.

Aside from it all being against everything a president is allowed to/ supposed to do, it is also very wet-brained.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Is the trade deal with us now?

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

He's such a 1-trick pony.

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Didn't the tacobell "supreme" court just say the tariffs were illegal? What is the fat pedophile even talking about?

[–] LastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Problem is, the supreme court also said they're the only court who can stop him at a national level.

So... Every time he breaks the rules, it has to go all the way to the SC to get overturned. Unless congress does LITERALLY ANYTHING.

Extraordinarily inefficient... On purpose.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Because they took Johnson down to Mara lago and said we know you like to eat ass and suck dicks. We’ll tell the world unless you get congress republicans to do nothing.
