Practically everything humans do is throwing rocks and setting things on fire!

Guns: setting a fire that throws a rock really hard!

Rocketry: sitting inside a rock and using a big fire to throw ourselves into orbit

Particle Accelerators: hurling the tiniest rocks we could find at each other so hard and so fast that they make special fire that we observe to divine the secrets of the universe.

I keep a skinny rock in my pocket for making shitposts on the internet.

Computers: special fire and tiny rocks working in perfect synchronization to display cat pictures and porn

And what is that special fire made of? You guessed it, water set on fire.

Not entirely. The other half of human activity is mixing dirt and plants and bones together to see what happens.

And what usual happens when you start mixing random shit together? Fire

Nukes, big fire rocks that throws tiny fire rocks at your DNA.

We're also good at using rocks to set things on fire

Rocks are good, but spears, especially with spear throwers, are much better.

inb4 someone going on about zoo apes throwing shit

Apes can throw, but they are way, way worse at it than humans, both in terms of accuracy and power. IIRC they can't do overhead throws, because their shoulders don't have enough range of movement.

people also love to go on about how strong chimps are compared to humans, but what they never mention is that we gave up that strength in part for the flexibility, dexterity, and fine motor skills required for powerful accurate throwing, tool use, and efficient bipedal motion. chimps may be stronger than us but that is largely due to their limited range of motion and increased leverage. they cant run for shit or throw with any power or accuracy, and their ability to use tools is limited, to say nothing of their ability to make tools. humans are some of the most graceful and agile animals alive, in part due to adaptations for tool use, but also due to our huge brains enabling highly complex and coordinated body motions. other animals are capable of similar feats but only in limited cases.

I never thought about it before...but I've never seen a chimpanzee figureskate or perform ballet.

When zoo apes start putting rocks on sticks, I'll start worrying

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

If we put the rock on the stick we can throw it faster!
