AI writes essays for you

Complains about no job you studied for existing

AI writes for you

you studied for?

I think I see the problem here.

More seriously, most people don't end up working what they studied for. And the job market absolutely does suck.

People don't seem to understand how accurate the bottom statement is aside from like 2 or 3 highly specialized things (Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers (maybe).

Yup. If you have a matketing, management, accounting, finance, economics, political science, arts, etc. Degrees It's like throwing darts as to where you land, it might be close to your degree, but rarely do you land on the mark. The ones that did already had connections and the school was just a box to check for them.

ai only takes jobs from people who use ai to do their to thinking for them.

Not writing your own papers.

Still claim to have been "studying."

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 3 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

To me studying is the learning you do. Writing essays is purely so the teacher can see what you’ve learnt.

So I can see how not writing essays doesn’t contradict learning.

Writing essays is a skill in itself, not sure how you'd acquire that skill without practicing it

[–] Quokka@quokk.au -4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If you’re learning a writing course, maybe that’s a relevant skill to have. Often it’s not however.

Learning how to share your thoughts in a way the the reader will understand is a skill universally useful no matter the future white-collar job, from making sparkling water to software engineering.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, definitely not.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Writing the essays is how you drill the information into your brain, it is the act of learning. You need to critically think about the subject matter to write the essay in a way you likely won't have when you were first taught the information.

AI isn't what is destroying jobs.

But it looks like it destroyed your education. That one you can fix.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

it didn't destroy your education; you did

Pls explain how ai isnt destroying jobs. are u aware of current job market? If a job can be done with keyboard and mouse, its gonna disappear soon.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Its all marketing. Look into the statistics and actual stories of the companies who have embraced AI. They have seen no productivity gains, not a single one. They are basically forcing managers to use it at the threat of losing their jobs, even though it can't actually do the work.

[–] mokey@therock.fraggle-rock.org 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Aye, when grades are the goal then using AI to cheat your way into better grades seems rational at the time; educational institutions need to be reformed so that grades are not the indicator, for the indicator has become the goal, not the actual education.

If ai was writing your essays, you weren't studying for anything.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Wtf are kids doing in college now anyway? All the jobs their going for have been flooded with slop that corporations love. I have no idea how a college student would survive today.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Education is important. Don’t fall for the lie

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Oh no I agree. I'm really wondering what they do now. I'd be depressed

[–] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Indeed but there is good chance to become unemployed after graduating.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I’m a trade worker and I’m back in college pursuing a masters.

Don't worry, nuclear war is about to set us back quite a bit.
