/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Don't forget to call in sick for May Day tomorrow!

Why should I?

(silently snickers in German national holiday)

Memory unlocked!

(I lived in Weiden as a kid)

[–] Sisyphe@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Wait, so the Festivus pole thing is for real? Do you also do the airing of grievances?

Giggles in Finnish workers' festival bank holiday

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Hmm UK it's the nearest Monday to May 1st. So what I'm hearing is call in sick tomorrow so I get a 4 day weekend.

"Our capitalists are dead. Ancient human workers slew them centuries ago" .... now I really know that this is a fictional universe

Easier to believe in the end of sub-lumina travel than the end of Capitalism

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

Not with that attitude

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You guys don't have holiday on may day?

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

In the UK we get the first Monday in May instead which has kind of a wink-wink nudge-nudge sort of relationship to IWD (it was added as a UK wide bank holiday by a Labour government back when Labour was more traditionally socialist but it was also an existing bank holiday in Scotland celebrating Beltane so there was some plausible deniability that it was just bringing bank holidays across the countries more into line with each other)

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 weeks ago

The O'Brien will continue until morale decreases

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

Call out sick anyways, just for shits and giggles

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Just about every normal country.
Just shows how pathetic americans are

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Most of the rest of us don't get Labor day off in September so it kinda evens out.

[–] CaptainSpaceman@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Labor day was invented to take away Americans away from MayDay

LOL
What loser country works on 1 May?

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago (15 children)

Not every country celebrates the hangover day after drinking for Walpurgis night, I'd assume?

And until then, we need to put the fear back into them!

[–] qualia@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I feel like not going to work as a Florida teacher would actually be a win for the capitalists.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

Hum... Isn't tomorrow one of the 2 days that are internationally recognizing as not a working day? (The other being Jan 1st)

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It's often recognized as International Worker's Day, but I don't know of many places where it's a public holiday. Here in the US, Labor Day is celebrated on Sept. 1, explicitly to separate the labor movement from it's radical origins

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Being the US, the vast majority of laborers don't get it off!

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 weeks ago

"Alright team, we need all hands on deck for Labor Day to accommodate all the extra shoppers who have off from their jobs. And remember, we're all family here!"

Most of my team in India is off tomorrow. It's not nation-wide but many states have public holidays.

[–] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

In the UK it's "nearest Monday to 1 May", following if 1 May was a Tuesday, on 1 May if that's a Monday

And labelled "Early May Bank Holiday"

But yes tomorrow is labor day. A day of protests and riots by the workers for the workers!! SING LOUD AND PROUD THE INTERNATIONAL!

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Jan 1st is a workers day???

No, and I haven't said that. Jan 1st celebrates peace.

[–] zout@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago

Not in the Netherlands.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Not in the US. I've never had May 1 off unless it was a weekend when I wasn't having to work.

[–] GorGor@startrek.website 2 points 2 weeks ago

hyvää vappua!

[–] Email@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's originally about Klingon gods as I'm sure most of you already know.
