what's sort of ass-backwards about this is that it's 100% voluntary. unless you're a little kid, passports don't expire for 10 years. so renewing them is infrequent to say the least. on top of that, you have to specifically request one of these instead of the normal ass passport.

i can't even think of an edge case where someone would be in possession of one of these as their official travel documents, unless they are a hardcore chud freakshow. which means they could, in theory, become a document indicting the one who possesses them. and there would be a record of them on file, with a photo and unique identifier including travel records.

so like, let's say some provision revolutionary government comes into existence, these could be used for a pretty cut and dry political purge. if one were so inclined. lmao.

On the other hand I would consider getting one if I were in the market for one because it's funny and degrading to the liberals and their notions of propriety. It's gaudy, it's obscene and it's exactly what this country deserves rather than anything respectable like some well revered white supremacist andremoved who died 100 years ago. Also I could probably tear my name out and in 15 years sell it to some rich chud for $2000 to put with the rest of their weird collectables. So there is that.

There will be no extra fee for the limited edition passports, according to a department official.

Oh god, from the title I thought it was mandatory but it seems to be an opt-in limited edition (...at least for now).

Also, from the caption in that article:

A oassport processing employee

I know that copyediting is dead, but come on now—a spell checker from the 80s would catch that!
