I talked to a native person and asked what they prefer instead of "Native American." They said they like being called "native," "first nation," and "indigenous." And in Austrailia, you can also call natives "aboriginal."
Makes sense.
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

had a white leftist I know blame me for the fact that I haven't been able to land a job
yeah.
that didn't sit right with me at all
The place you interviewed at earlier didn't call you back?
Also that bootstrap protestant work ethic still lingers in so-called "leftists." Like they'll say how homelessness is a systemic problem, but then blame individuals for the material conditions that cause people to end up on the street.
This recent interview I did apparently might take up to a week to get back (not counting business days), so that would be on Thursday.
kind of your fault for not being born as the child of a business owner
Happy May One, everybody

Happy worker's day!
I fear some states in the US like diseases based on the assumption that there's more gross things about them. I have religious trauma as an ex-Christian, so I never want to go to the Bible belt. California seems nice, except I hope I never see the cursed concentration camp at the border. Is this negative of me in any way? I want people to be safe and some states seem like they have more uncomfortable amounts of danger than others... Including the danger of abandonment, I'm sad each time I remember the US abandoning people to things like a complete lack of clean water and weather disasters. That stuff sounds like being in a version of Silent Hill.
Honestly, I think the main themes here are that I hate abusive control and neglect.
Say it loud!
(Took this concept from a tweet) Black excellence is neoliberal BS to get us to ignore capitalist imperialism in favor of liberal democracy. I reject Black excellence, my ancestors had Black power and Black pride, and that's what I'll have.
It reminds me of people who think that Black solidarity stops at supporting Black businesses and glazing Black billionaires.
I went into a Black owned clothing shop once that had hoodies with George Jackson quotes for sale then a Black billionaire wall with Beyonce and Rhianna.

What's black excellence about?
It's mostly meaningless. I've seen it used for Black folk that have big houses and corporate jobs to Black people that win an award. It's tied to nothing beyond asthetic
Starting to understand why many posters here mostly stick to this community only
I appreciate this space and you all
my favorite part about this community is obviously how chill it is but we are the funniest community on this platform
Man it’s so sad seeing what’s happening in the philippines, power to the NPA, power to the people, may we all achieve liberation soon
to the NPA, long live National Democracy
Death to fascists, death to Marcos-Duterte comprador regime and all its like, death to US imperialism
our colonizers make us ASK THEM to buy russian oil with the country's own money
Seeing all the US did and still does to the Philippines to this day breaks my heart.
I wish I wasn't disabled so I could get on a flight right now and do whatever they need volunteers for :(
Hope everyone has a good week. This week has a lot of cool stuff and releases for lil ol me.
Got an over the phone interview for a remote position in about 2 hours. People say this company mass hires, so hopefully something comes out of it! 🤞🏿
Update: Went quite well and all. I apparently get an update in 24 to 48 hours.
