Is it even physically possible to be that fat? Googling...

... I have returned and yes it is. It is not a place of honour. No great deeds are recorded here. It is a place of badness.

~370kg person is "stepping" on a scale? Yeah, right.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Good point. Plenty of people on My 600 Pound Life are literally incapable of crossing such daunting obstacles as the height of a scale or the threshold of a door.

Well if would have to carry 300kg every step, I also wouldn’t be able to cross any obstacles…

Well sorry. It's greentext so it legally can't be a lie, very similar to TV.

It’s just struck me, I rarely see hyper-obese people anymore in my area of the US. Obese, definitely. Morbidly obese? Absolutely. Indigent due to weight? Haven’t seen them in a while.

I just wish the government weren’t on fire so that I could see whether that is the result of a trend or just random chance

People don’t have to leave their homes anymore. Everything can be delivered or done online. Even some medical visits can be done online.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 16 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe they got so fat that they can't leave their house anymore. The pandemic must have been pretty bad for these types ...

You can thank doordash for making mobility optional.

My wife is obgyn and we move to a region that's famous for good meat, so she's having an increase in fat patients, which is an absolute pain in the ass for her. But even so, I don't think she's ever had anything above a 100kg. This shit is just unimaginable, hahaha!

OP's patient guesstimate is probably the value they saw the last time they could actually step on a balance.

[–] cabillaud@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Where is that place where nobody weights more than 100kg?

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I checked with her and her biggest patient -a pregnant patient- was 120kg. I can't speak for the rest of Europe (UK / Ireland has been pretty bad in recent years) but anything above 100kg is fuckhuge, in France. Either you're built like a Space Marine, or you're some sort of fatass, pretty much.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

A 2 meter fellow with a modicum of muscle is going to be 100kg no problem.

Oh obgyn

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

How many pounds? That doesn't seem possible, like how would they even get to the doctor? Hauled in the back of a truck? But they probably couldn't climb in and out.

What I find honestly shocking is the number of men (it's always men) who think they are exempt from physics, and can weigh more than BMI standards because they have muscle. No regular guy is so jacked they can be lean and obese in weight. You are fat, maybe fat and strong, yes, but fat. BMI does miss in the other direction, regularly. I am well within normal and active, still feel like I have too much fat, and it's not some dysmorphia thing, it's just so much more common to be skinnyfat than heavy lean.
