I have been playing this series since I was a kid. In fact Resident Evil 3 was my first game in the series.

I think the tank style games are the best ones, but I know they can be hard to get into. I think a lot of people might choose the RE1 remaster or RE2 as it is talked about so highly as their first game.

But, Resident Evil 3 on easy mode is what I recommend as the starter game so people can get used to the gameplay style.

The game has so much ammo. I basically used just the standard gun and shotgun the entire time. I did not even need to use the gunpowder system to make more ammo.

The game is also pretty short, so it is easy to get through. Once you finish playing this game, I recommend going to RE2 then 1. It is your decision to play the original vs remake.

a valid recommendation I think. I remember enjoying the third one a lot. Also these days I really value shorter games, so that's a real bonus for it.

I kinda stumbled into the boss fight at the end of the game. I was surprised it ended so suddenly

You need to play the OG RE1 for the original style tank controls and the greatest line from the series (which was changed in all subsequent releases for some dumb reason).

The Jill sandwich.

You almost got turned into a Jill sandwich?

first time I played was RE1 Director's Cut on beginner mode and it was ridiculously easy

I typically do not play the easy mode, but I really enjoyed RE3 easy as I could experience the game without any stress. Maybe it's that I am older now. I never tried RE1 directors cut on easy, I will give that a go right after code veronica.

I think the peak for tank control Resident Evil is Outbreak Files 1 and 2, personally. But I played them on the obsrv.org fan server with three friends in a voice chat, not with bots and strangers with no mic like people did when the games were new.

Otherwise I like RE2 more than 3. RE3 wasn't even intended to be a mainline entry. It started as a low-budget, un-numbered spin-off project called Biohazard 1.9 with an inexperienced dev team (and I think it shows IMO) and then they pivoted 3 months before launch adding in Jill. Why is apparently scheduling pressure from the PS2 getting announced, idk.

Og on CRT (or shaders), that's the way you play the masterpiece

Edit: I correct myself, you want the romhack one, which restore the og japanese version

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What’s the benefit of the Japanese version?

[–] SolarPunker@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 weeks ago

Censorship

"The original PlayStation version of Resident Evil went through several changes between its original Japanese release and its international counterparts. The North American and European versions of the intro were heavily cut from the one featured in the Japanese releases. Shots of mangled corpses, a "Cerberus" zombie dog being shot, Joseph's death, and Kenneth's severed head were edited out, as well as scenes featuring the character Chris Redfield smoking a cigarette." —Wikipedia

I literally just started playing the originals on my r36s. I always kinda played them at friends' houses but never really enjoyed it cause I couldn't just sit and play by myself for a few hours I guess because I just went through all of director's cut and loved it. finished Leon and Claire A in 2 yesterday and plan on starting the b new game pluses today with 3 planned on for next week.

All this started with me noticing I have the 4 remake from family share on steam and have only heard fantastic things about it, but really wanted to get to it in the natural chronological order.

not even reading that, recommending someone the third game in a series instead of the first is stupid. especially since the original trilogy are all similar gameplay wise

Recommending someone the third game in a series is not stupid, there are many series where that recommendation is perfectly reasonable. The best Metal Gear is MGS3. The best Devil May Cry is DMC3. The best Half-Life is...wait. Shit.

Don't even think of starting FF16 without going through the first ~~15~~ 20 games in the series (I'm counting 7CC but not 7DC or 7BC) (yes also 4AY)
