Is anyone working on a project/looking to create a project that's open to collaborators?

The last post here had many interesting commenters so I'm curious what you all could be cooking up? I hope you leave a comment

I have a decent bit of spare time and a lot of ideas, if your looking to dm me then feel free :v

  • off topic below

Edit: yall are still kinda weird, We cant be getting mad at people for not saving others 2 clicks, its overly confrontational and weird. just chill we got way bigger issues bro, we need to join the united front

My project's currently on hold because I'm focusing my outside-of-work coding on stuff that helps me with my current job search. But once I'm done with that I'd be super interested in collaborating with my artist friends to get out of a UI/UX snag I've hit. Getting input from non-programmers on projects is always a really good way to move forward imo

That's a weird edit. What could have possibly caused it -

Uh... the only enraged person I see is you.

It's okay, we all have our moments.

But please come back to this post when you're in a better headspace.

I wasnt upset at the time, its just weird to get upset over the fact I didnt preemptively decide I should include links incase some people might not know how to access a post while also having accessed my post while also not being able to goto my profile. hmm

No one but you was upset, they just kindly asked for links.

You have to search through the comments. They're mad because people asked for a link to the referenced post.

It still doesn't make sense tho.

If you actually read what he said, him calling me inconsiderate, being condescending and claiming no one could know I was talking about myself when originally i said "the post on my last post were interesting" before i rephrased it due to the next comment made no sense

That's a very open-ended question. You may want to narrow it down a bit, unless you're truly just looking for anything.

Some helpful information would be your experience level (are you only looking to learn or is your goal to create something), what languages and frameworks you know, if you're looking to join an existing project or lead your own, what type of collaboration (collaboration could mean anything from working on the same git repo to remote pair programming), what you look to get out of it, how much time you're willing to invest, and other things in a similar vein.

Sorry I should of been clearer. I meant the people from the last post all seemed interesting so I was wondering what projects you all were working on that are open to collaboration, even if I don't understand I find it interesting to hear about them

also, I don't imagine lemmy is the right place to be looking for specific work/contracts haha

When you say "the last post", please link to it since different people have wildly different client settings that may not show every community's posts in an adjacent fashion.

Most (if not all) Free Software projects are open for contributions! Using and contributing to GNU Guix changed quite a bit in my life

[–] comrade@infosec.pub 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I imagine on most bigger projects youd either have to be invited/hired in to contribute but thank you ill check

also if I may ask how did contributing to guix change your life? I hope for the better haha

[–] frankenswine@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't think you need an invite, but I guess with most projects the learning curve is rather steep.

It changed my life so that what time I formerly invested in tiny toy projects (mostly proof-of-concept stuff that would've taken too much time to finish into a cool prototype) I now use that time to contribute to something bigger. The satisfaction that comes from working on a big, consensus-driven project is hard to describe—I've never enjoyed such a thing before and wouldn't want to miss it

[–] comrade@infosec.pub 1 points 8 hours ago

I agree, its just hard, or I find it hard to find projects that are that open, that big and properly organized. everything today is just so messy

You are looking for project ideas? I've made this huge-ass shell script for a asciidoctor package format (to make projects with media portabel). Then came the thought, i should redo this in python and then "while i'm on it, why not a universal lightweight markup package format?". But i don't have the time, so if you're up for it...

And the thing i don't have the time because, it's complicated. Maybe in a few months.

Id checkout the other comment talking about toml and python packages

but if thats not relevent, Id love to hear more in messages. it seems like something id be good at

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Python supports toml for packages. I don't know if that would fit your needs though

If you want to like, do body doubling you can try streaming on twitch.

In those regards, id be more interested in something like pair programming (which I think is much harder on social media platforms) but I appreciate the suggestion
