Can confirm, without the hype that was the book releases being everywhere in the media, my own kids enjoyed the first book and then lost interest.
They don't hold up because they are the last fantasy series to ignore mobile phones as a fact of reality. It is dated and timely as a book that is aching to be replaced by a timeless fantasy that speaks to all ages.
