Welcome to this week’s casual kōrero thread!

This post will be pinned in this community so you can always find it, and will stay for about a week until replaced by the next one.

It’s for talking about anything that might not justify a full post. For example:

  • Something interesting that happened to you
  • Something humourous that happened to you
  • Something frustrating that happened to you
  • A quick question
  • A request for recommendations
  • Pictures of your pet
  • A picture of a cloud that kind of looks like an elephant
  • Anything else, there are no rules (except the rule)

So how’s it going?

Waiting for the weather to hit over on the west side

Only wind as the rain gauge is not working

Hope you come through ok!

What weather station do you have? It's something I've been wanting to get for a while.

I hope we dont get the rain that we got last month, they estimate we had 300-400mm in the hills above our local water catchment and it wiped out the Reservoir.

The weather station is all DIY built around ESP boards, some temp probes and BGT-W815S pro. I scored for free, as only the wind speed/direction is working, the temp/pressure and rain all seem to supply corrupted data

Oh nice! I've been wanting some fancy thing like this: https://ambientweather.com/ws-5000-ultrasonic-smart-weather-station

But that's the most expensive one. The cheapest is about $150 USD. But I have trouble buying a cheap one when the expensive ones have so much more, but the expensive ones are too expensive 😆. Also I don't have anywhere to put it anyway. Not that keen on a pole in the middle of the lawn.

I've been running the same Framework laptop for years and years, after using YouShop to freight forward it. It is their original model, when there was only one option. At a certain point they started blocking people freight forwarding, and I haven't been able to get replacement parts.

This morning I got an email telling me they are finally supporting NZ, so I can get those parts! And apparently they are announcing their next gen stuff in a couple of weeks.

pretty sick that frame work now ships to nz. I really want to buy one but I never use any mobile computing devices so probably best not to waste my money. But I am trying to convince my flatmate to get one as her laptop since shes a linux user

Oooh. Interesting. I've been hoping to have them available here.

I have some ports wearing out (from kids tripping on the cable) plus the screen bezel has been broken for a long time. Will be nice to get some new bits! Plus get some of the port options that weren't available when I got mine, like SD card reader or ethernet port.

I also wanted to upgrade the guts some time back but I'll hold out for this announcement and see what the new stuff looks like (or get a discount on the old stuff).

Then I'll have yet another machine to use as a server (the old mainboard) 😅
