I got Mulligan, or as we usually call him Moop after a long stay in the ICU. I asked my partner if I survived could I have a puppy? He of course said yes and I spent months dreaming of this boy from my critical care bed. I received a new set of lungs during that stay in the hospital and that summer we brought Mulligan home. Mulligan is named for my surgeon, Dr. Mulligan, which considering “a mulligan” is a do over I’m reminded the universe does have a sense of humor sometimes.

It’s crazy to think that’s so far behind me, that my little fantasy puppy is a real, grown dog who has traveled around the sun with me 11 times! Time flies, hug your pets and people and remember the sun doesn't go down, It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Hope you and Mulligan have many more orbits around the sun.

Double lung transplant sounds intense! You should've asked for two dogs, one for each!

I think they don't last forever, at some point the immune system rejects the transplanted lung and you need a new one :s

I’m past the point of no return and my body has started repairing my non-native lungs so these kinda will last “forever” the issue is my DNA will be repairing them with flawed cells, still between new lungs and gene editing meds I should be good to go for a few more decades

I'm so happy that you two get to be together.

Mulligan would be a fantastic 2nd kid's name

And third... And fourth... And I'm just going to scoop right there.

What’s even better is he is my “second kid” in the sense the dog I had gotten at 19 was his older sister, she’s passed now but she was with me pre-transplant and now Moop’s got me

This is that wholesome stuff the world needs more of. Adorable picture 🥰

That sounds like a tough journey, but Moop looks very content indeed to be sharing it with you.
