I use Calendar, contacts, notes and cospend on a daily basis.

I installed nextcloud at first because I was looking for a basic forms app. Not something very complex, just needed something simple. The best I found was Nextcloud Forms. So I ended up driving a nail not with a hammer, but a battering ram. But I knew that I might find other uses later.

Since then, I've discovered and used many apps.

  • Files lets me easily share documents with others with a link.
  • I started storing recipes in Cookbook, instead of links in a file.
  • I started storing bookmarks across all my devices in Bookmarks and floccus.
  • I got into podcasts by subscribing to RSS feeds with News.
  • I started doing my todo lists digitally with Tasks. This one in particular has very much changed my daytoday along with the android app tasks from tasks.org.

How are you liking the tasks app? I haven't used it much but I was trying the Deck app for a while as a Trello replacement but found it too basic. I was wondering if the regular tasks app was missing any useful features too.

I actually started with deck and then moved to tasks because I likes the simplicity of a binary "done/not done" as apposed to moving cards across boards (which I used todo/doing/done). Theres a couple features that I use on a given task, like dates, descriptions, and subtasks, but thats it. I suspect that if deck was insufficient for you, thats tasks isnt the right solution either.

I was looking at tasks.org and it seems pretty nice. I think I have two types of tasks usually. Some are more project oriented and fit better with a trello style kanban board, but I also have simpler ones like grocery lists, bill reminders, etc. I use remember the milk for that currently, but I'll probably try switching.

I was also looking at etesync recently for caldav/cardav but I kind of like the idea of it being integrated into nextcloud better.

Youve reminded me that deck and tasks actually integrate with one another. If you have a deck card assigned to you, it shows up in a special feed in tasks as well. I think its a little clunky but might be a feature of interest. I just opted for all tasks, since my nextcloud is single user.

A relatively new addition for me is the Memories app. It does some object recognition on photos and makes it easier to search through your own photos. I think Immich might be better but memories is integrated in nextcloud.

When Nextcloud finally shipped a credible wiki (the somewhat absurdly-named "Collectives" app), this was finally enough to get me to install it for myself and my business partner. So, currently, Collectives plus the Sync feature ... other apps may draw me in later.

How do you like the wiki? What do you use it for? Internal use or can you spin it public for projects?

[-] ThorrJo@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago

It's okay, not great, still needs UX work. That being said, it stores all its files in Markdown and they are also accessible in the Files app.

Not actually sure if it can be made public, they grafted some unnecessary features onto it in order to call it "Collectives" which might make it a bad fit for such, but I haven't actually looked to see if it's possible.

I use a lot of the apps. Most of them are "just good enough" to keep from installing alternate, standalone versions. However, having them all integrated into NC is a big plus over maintaining separate applications.

  • Calendar app and sync it with my phone with DavX5
  • Tasks -> DavX5 -> OpenTasks on my phone
  • Deck, which is a Kanban/Trello type of task management.
  • SnappyMail app to access my email
  • The Nextcloud app on my phone handles automatically uploading my photos and videos.
  • The Riotchat app keeps me connected on Matrix
  • Passman to manage my passwords (also has a dedicated Android app)
  • Music player to play my media (works great as a Chrome app)
  • Cookbook app for my recipes (it is also good at scraping/importing from recipe sites if you paste the URL in)

I use news, gPodder sync app, TimeManager and Deck all with the corresponding android apps (AntennaPod for Podcasts). Also nextcloud office (collabora), The music player and obviously files, calendar, contacts. I'm sure I forgot some :)

Notes Bookmarks CookBook Calendar Tasks Deck

and obviously Files the most

Calendar and contacts for syncing.
I'm also a huge fan of Nextcloud Office with Onlyoffice, legitimately a better experience than Microsoft Online for editing documents in the browser and less syncing issues when collaborating with others.

  • bookmarks (synced with Floccus)
