The singer in question was:

Marina and the Diamonds

But if you feel like clicking through, there’s a bunch of other artists taking anti-Zionist stances that they’ve helpfully listed across various comments.

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

Kind of baffling they'd think Marina was a zionist, I've only half followed her career and she's always been at least left-lib then went openly anti-capitalist during the pandemic

They're a good band. I haven't heard their contemporary releases but that album was great.

The first thing I did was play the top result for a search, which didn’t chart nearly as well as I assumed based on how many times I remember hearing it. Fun song.

I think it’s one thing for people to have such views, it’s another to spew that kind of stuff at your own show. Where people paid money to see you, made travel arrangements et cetera to see you, only to stand there and alienate those fans

Dance for me, performer! Be neutral! Perform! I paid money to see you! Money!

Imagine if any one of us showed up to our jobs, and said this kind of thing, if we openly spewed hatred about someone else’s identity.

What "identity", you ask? Why, it's military occupation, ethnic cleansing and genocide.

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

Israelis, famous for being very inclusive of all identities and definitely not hating everyone that isn't a white-ish Jew with genocidal rage.

Oh FFS I had coworkers decking their desks out with Israel flags after 10/7.

Reminds me of an old college buddy that went to see Roger Waters a few years back and complained that he "got political" during the show. Like c'mon dude, what do you think the whole point of Animals was?

[–] OrionsMask@hexbear.net 28 points 2 days ago

I can't wait until this person learns that a great big chunk of the world shares these same "weird views" - i.e. not thinking you're entitled to commit genocide just because you're Jewish.

I discovered many good artists because zionists cried about them... Eg kneecap, Bob vylan. Why are all anti zionist artists goated?

[–] moss_icon@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you’re into hardcore punk, IKHRAS is fronted by a Palestinian man and their lyrics are about the genocide against Palestinians. I saw them when they performed at Outbreak Festival last year and have been a fan since.

Lmao Ikhras basically means "shut up" in arabic

[–] moss_icon@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah I know, basically sums up their entire message lol

[–] nfreak@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago

That's exactly how I found these two. The latter especially is on my daily rotations now.

Can I ask who it is? A lot of my favorite musicians have jumped on the pro-Pally bandwagon as well. Some people can separate the art from the artist, but it's been hard for me to listen to their music now.

I grew up and went to school with a lot of Jewish people and realize now how entrenched Israeli culture is in them. They were standard libs but they went to Kibbutz, visited Israel regularly, had several connections to the state. People who you wouldn’t wouldn’t associate with the depravity of modern Israel.

It seems like it’s impossible for them to break away from this milieu, to which I say, as someone with their own problems with their own identity, I’m really fucking glad to not be Jewish trying to navigate this new world. The diaspora is fucked

It just gives off an "I'm better than you" vibe when they talk about stuff they don't know anything about just to show how good and righteous they are.

Do tell me more about people with a sense of superiority like that.
