The US president has “threatened to stop” supplying weapons for Ukraine to pressure European allies to join a “coalition of ‌the willing” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the Financial Times reports, quoting people briefed on the discussions.

According to the report, Trump threatened to stop supplies to NATO’s weapons procurement initiative for ‌Ukraine, which is funded by European countries.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Al Jazeera it was “very disappointing” that NATO allies such as Spain blocked the use of their airspace and bases for the US-Israel war on Iran. He warned that Washington will re-examine the value of NATO after the war is over.

So let me see if I understand this whole situation:

  • Trump and Israel attack a Iran because.... reasons....
  • Iran fires back and closes the Strait
  • Trump realizes that he is too weak and goes crying to Nato in hopes of hiding behind them
  • Nato refuses to help the cowardly Trump
  • Trump in a sulk cried about how Nato wouldn't clean up his mess
  • Now Trump in a spoilt temper tantrum is declaring he won't keep other promises unless Nato fights his battles for him because he's too much of a wimp to do it himself.

Do I have this right?

No it's

  • Trump and Netanyahu attack Iran because they are rabid fascists, worse than Hitler
  • Iran defends itself and closes the Strait
  • Trump doesn't realize that he is too weak, but he notices that things aren't going his way
  • His European vassals do realize that their master going mad after his illegal invasion to annex and genocide of Iran, consisting of ~20 times the population of the holocaust killed is a bit of a bad look, not because of the amount of people they try to kill, but because they see the US failing and Iran was their main supplier of oil and gas together with all the Middle Eastern nations that are blocked from exporting their oil and gas, while being at war with the previous other main supplier Russia, and tell themselves that it's not "not their war", so they refuse to help
  • Trump is mad at his European vassals, who now refuse to fully starve themselves to death for him or jump into molten hot lava to in order to cool a volcano, instead of the usual squirming that they do more often and far deeper for Usonians than the average worm does its entire life.
  • He now threatens his vassals that he's going to "close the club" hoping his vassals will further squirm for him in panic and beg him to sacrifice their lives at the altar of the Usonian blood cult

Ohhh so the US IS capable of conditioning aid.

[–] Stowaway@midwest.social 1 points 3 days ago

Whoa, let's not jump to conclusions here. Like everything trump says, don't believe it until theres actual evidence to prove its true, and it was peer reviewed by 10 non-republicans that have never bent the knee.

[–] BananaLama@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 days ago

But I thought European countries were too weak to be useful in a fight?

And also if European countries weren't willing to deploy troops to the Ukrainian theater why would they to this one

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 41 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just imagine what he will do as soon as he thinks that this lever will work!

[–] Mangoholic@lemmy.ml 15 points 4 days ago

Coalition of the threatened.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Wait a minute...

Driving the news: A reporter asked Trump in the Oval Office earlier Tuesday how he planned to bring oil prices down

"All I have to do is leave Iran, and we'll be doing that very soon," Trump said, predicting prices would come "tumbling down."

Why would trump care about a coalition to reopen the strait, if oil prices are going to come "tumbling down" regardless? What an idiot.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Imagine if Iran just kept the strait closed lmao

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works -1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (2 children)

That's what they're doing. It's not actually closed the iraniana just demand a bribe to be let through. They're peace offer is for everyone to accept a toll to go through. China russia and india dont care they just buy the cheap iranian oil with a bribe and it's still cheaper than what us and Europe are paying for gas

[–] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 20 points 5 days ago (3 children)

It's a two-tier system. Friendly countries - China, Russia, Malaysia and Bangladesh - don't even need to pay the toll. 'Neutral' countries like India, Indonesia, etc. can transport oil after paying the toll. US and its allies don't get oil, toll or no toll.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 4 days ago

Also there's the alternative way which Iran offered: quick out the American and Israeli embassadors.

Iran is playing 5D chess whilst Trump's America is playing Tic-tac-toe.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

US and its allies don’t get oil, toll or no toll.

the allies also don't need to pay a toll if they kick out the us bases from their countries.

[–] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Yes, but then the US army will pay you a visit instead of Iran, and unless you've been spending the last decade building tunnels and drones it probably won't work out as well for you.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

definately true for the global south, but i wonder if it's the same for the uk or france or germany

[–] mathemachristian@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago

No because they're laready there

[–] beansoup@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago

Hopefully us military will be decimated after Iran is done with them.

[–] mathemachristian@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 days ago

Seems fair to me.

[–] mathemachristian@lemmy.ml 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

a bribe

Hahahahahahahahaahaahahahahahahh its a toll, and guess why the price jumped lmao

look at how much you have to "bribe" the europeans to pass through their country

https://www.tolls.eu/toll-calculator

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works -3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Well it's not through iran, it's through international waters, hence why they didn't charge a toll before and now it can be called a bribe

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's shared territorial waters, which is not the same as international waters. Learn what a word means before lecturing others on it.

Okay sorry reading a comment is like a lecture for you

[–] mathemachristian@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago

huh??? Are you saying Iran doesn't have jurisdiction over it's half of the strait of hormuz?? Are you perhaps confused with territorial waters??

[–] duncan_bayne@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Trump reeks of flop sweat at present. The desperation is notable even from my vantage point in Australia.

[–] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Watch, their response is gonna be "Don't let the front door hit you where the Good Lord split you."

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

i'd expect some "ok daddy" as always, but i can hope eu leaders are not dumb enough to take part in the iran clusterfuck trump made for himself.

As an American, I hope they stonewall him. Let him and Bibi humiliate themselves.

[–] sirscooter@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

You do realize that Ukraine has more cutting edge tech at the new way of war that the US. The EU is getting more weapons from Ukraine and they are building factories in the EU

[–] Napster153@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

It's not just that.

Everyone and their mother knows that Iran had close networks with Russia and China. The fact that NO ONE in the West seemed to have learned anything or at least took inspiration from the Ukraine-Russian Conflict is testament to the stagnancy in the West.

[–] kyTdKZx9PtDQ9e56u06@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Have you seen what they've been doing with drones my guy?

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 0 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

That's not an example of them having superior cutting edge tech, which is what I asked you to provide if it was so obvious

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip -3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

True info about Ukraine is limited on Lemmy.ml. Pretty sure that he/she missed something.

[–] 9skyguy0@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What do you mean by true info and limited how so?

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip -4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Don't tell me that local admins and moderators stopped filling this instance with propaganda about how russia is good and Ukraine is bad. And also removing as much posts/comments as possible that even try to state otherwise. The only community(of which I am aware of) that sometimes tells about some news related to Ukraine is the World News community on Lemmy.ml.

So, unless you are visiting other instances, you are not getting much info about what is happening in the Ukraine.

P. S. If you know a community that actively posts true information about Ukraine on Lemmy.ml, I will glad to see it and reconsider some of my views.

[–] 9skyguy0@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There is a Ukraine community, but such a black-and-white perception of how Ukraine is discussed on Lemmy.ml does tell me all I need to know.

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip -2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I asked to show it, not to just tell about it and dissappear. Otherwise your words have no value. + prove otherwise that on Lemmy.ml you don't have flaws that I described higher.
