If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

They don't make good pets. Turn up every bad behavior a cat has, and they don't even cuddle.
Amazing to look at and fun to work with though!
I got to release one I worked with in my yard.
If you’re looking for places to release them… my mom has a few ideas. (Around her house. Plenty of rabbits for everyone!)
I'll add her to the wait list 😉
I want flying squirrels this year. I spoke up too late last year.
There’s a waitlist?
Why am I not surprised.
We don't seem to get many owls, especially not rabbit munching sized. If you want some Red tailed hawks, I usually have a bunch of those in stock.
To be fair, they’re really quite small. The northern hawk owls handle them happily.
Now that's one I want! The NHO!
We don't have them here.
You misunderstand. I will be the one to adapt and live in the wild with them!
That is acceptable!
Li’l Dude . . . No. You cannot play the country station! No.
*uggh*. FINE.
I still stand firm the driver gets to pick the tunes, but I couldn't say no to that face either.
Owl look into this.
You should! Working with the animals is some of the most fun and rewarding stuff I've ever done.
I agree! I already volunteer with animals, but nothing exotic or wild...
Thank you for your service! 🫡
No, thank you for your service! I don't do much, but it all helps...
All the jobs are important.
I can't wait to see how my squirrel population has ballooned since last week. I hear a lot more have come in. 😖
Lol, I'm literally listening to "The War on Squirrels" right now: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5G9Hd1xO88OdgPhDlAgpzK
I'll have to check that out! 😁
I love the squirrels of course, but we get hundreds! This was my first patient of the season:
