The US may seize the islands, but holding them is going to be massively difficult because there is absolutely no way to stop them from being constantly attacked by drones and missiles.

The only reason I could think to do this is to stop Iran from attacking more distant infrastructure, forcing them to focus in on the problem next door. But the cost in people and equipment to accomplish that would be astronomical.

I don't see how this could possibly work out.

They only dare to steal from nations they dont fear retaliation from like Cuba. That oil was likely bought by India or China tho and those aren't bullied as easily. At least that's my guess
