Can fujimoto salvage this somehow?

chapter 232 spoilers

He really did it, he did "MAN (fights with chainsaw)."

Great ending, fujimoto escaped his contract with the shueisha devil and can now write things other than vainsaw man to make the shueisha devil more money. Some things were weird, apparently Aki is not present so is the gun devil erased or is Pochita deciding that Aki was a bad influence on denji and power to them and to himself. Makima was also erased so I'm guessing pochita had control over what they restore.

I liked the meta take, part 2 felt like it was veering off a cliff in terms of scope. I'm pretty sure years later we will hear how the shueisha devil abused fujimoto and he decided to end the story to preserve his own health.

still dont know what kind of devil Pochita is. Anyone have any ideas? ๐Ÿค”

the main character devil

shonen ending devil

The long battle scenes from fujimoto have never been my favorite parts of his work. Ending is definitely somewhat of a cop-out but I think fuji was digging a hole these last few months.

Now give me the kobeni spin off you coward

[โ€“] purpleworm@hexbear.net 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

It's honestly the worst part to me that we never found out what was going on with Kobeni

[โ€“] barrbaric@hexbear.net 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

She became a pro DDR player.

[โ€“] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 1 points 12 minutes ago

Pro-GDR player.

[โ€“] Chana@hexbear.net 4 points 1 hour ago

lmao if this is the ending it's so poorly done. The direction is fine but the execution is garbage.

No shade at the author though, he's clearly burnt out and the industry is incredibly extractive.

[โ€“] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 5 points 2 hours ago

Does Fujimoto want to salvage this? No.

I think his roughest, yet best ending was Fire Punch. His best ending was definitely Chainsaw man part 1. For all other one shots, his endings have been about alternate universes, fake outs, ironic twists, etc.

This is totally in line with his usual approach, it came out of nowhere, but I can see what he is thinking: Denji, having learned absolutely nothing was about to fuck War and Asa (with Yoru probably lying about her consent). I could see how this deity would make the decision to put a stop to Denji's bad decisions.

Will people ever understand what Fujimoto is trying to say? Nah, the reading comprehension devil is more powerful than the gun devil.

local Chainsaw Man fan here, about as.. disappointing as you can get with that whiplash of

Chainsaw Man spoilers of... everything, pretty much.Pochita going 'hey so I know you haven't solved anything by being Chainsaw Man, but not being Chainsaw Man would've probably been bad too.. but, y'know what, I think without me, you'd do better!' goes and erases itself from the world.

Then, well, as expected he didn't get better. He still survived with Power being the one to save him, which while it probably wouldn't have happened in the OG w/ Makima start, with a Nayuta one (if she grows up, she's going to become like Makima right??? Without Denji, she's basically just Makima again but younger..) instead, he became a Public Safety Officer with Power (I guess that fulfilled that contract but.. damn is that so unsatisfying.) and pretty much did his job and has someone I guess to accompany him.

Also, Asa/Yoru x Denji was never resolved and I hate Fujimoto for that (unless Part 3???????) and instead just a coincidental meeting and that's it. Though, I guess it was funny when she said, 'Chainsaw Man? Like, you man, then you use normal chainsaw' hahaha......!!!!!! Denji'll probably die to some higher level devil that was released from Chainsaw Man's erasure, Power too likely, and overall, disappointing ending that was basically bound to happen because of that sudden shift.

I don't really hate Fujimoto (or Gege in JJK, I've read the manga and watched the anime up to Season 2, will continue tomorrow to be prepared for Sendai Colony Episode) for the matters relating to how their stories ended, character development dropped and general disappointment with everything I was hoping for the stories. There were some issues in JJK manga because of Gege being rushed apparently so I don't feel as much hate towards the authors, rather the all-encompassing soul-crushing system that is Capitalism, and the type that Japan has as well that can be characterized as ever moving to the right..

I understand why it happened, why it could've happened but I held out hope Fujimoto would at least end Chainsaw Man in a somewhat satisfying way (someone else here said it could end in the world ending which is also a possibility, but if that were the case, I still hoped for the plot threads to be resolved before so, but I truly lost hope when it was said that one chapter would follow the reveal before the end). I personally think that it should've ended a bit more.. umm, 'positively' (that's my opinion, but I would be satisfied with any as long as the plot threads get solved in the first damn place!!) something like..

Personal Opinions on My Version of Ending of CSM, spoilers, ofc.

Asa/Yoru's conflict should've been solved in two ways, either Yoru is really just a demon and kills Asa to fight Chainsaw Man, or Asa/Yoru merge like Denji/Pochita. The fight between the two ends someway, and everything goes back to normal (somehow, this is for my fanfic self over at Ao3 to figure out, but it's something to do with Chainsaw Man spitting out stuff, I guess?) somehow, but the two are left exhausted.

The world goes back to normal, still shitty, but normal, and the two, live out their lives remembering the people they've lost as Asa and Denji, through living together and basically being each other's trauma companion help each other find something new that goes beyond their devil identities.

Though, as for the two basically being top-tier criminals, I guess I'll just have them either conveniently be forgotten (idk, Chainsaw Man is forgotten somehow?) or some negotiation with Public Safety (so we get our fav. characters that just.. disappeared for some reason?) makes them able to live with this life. And yeah, the series ends with that, the two living together, not exactly happy, not exactly safe or secure either, but with the two together, it'll improve, then IDK, if Nayuta can be brought back, get her back too, and then, Power can also come back, as a different someone though because it was implied she'd be the Blood Devil, but different body (my understanding, at least), or not, but yeah.

I'd also take care of some Fumiko stuff but I don't really know how to resolve her stuff.. Maybe deal with Nostradamus Prophecy by saying 'Well.. the world almost ended!! That counts??' I dunno, but either way, a lotta shit has been destroyed, it's basically the end of the world for a lot of people, the horsemen devils are around, devils resurrect and overall, not great, but with the two surrounding themsleves with each other and other people, they'll.. somehow go through it.

Overall, disappointing, but inevitable under excruciating pressure in the manga/anime industry.. I explained my detailed reasons above for why exactly I was disappointed with Chainsaw Man's ending, what I'd do with it, and I just wish Fujimoto better in his life, and if his next story interests me, I'll be right back to reading all about him~

Edit 1, contains spoilers

So, if anybody read the ending, why in the hell is Denji's heart still Pochita?? If you look closely when Asa and Denji coincidentally met.. Is.. is Part 3 possible in 2028?!! Like, I guess it makes sense, Pochita's still Denji's heart but then why? How would the erasure work then? How would Denji.. nevermind. I don't know, because why? Why?! FUJIMOTO?? Anyway, yeah that's it.

I thought it was cute. catgirl-sorry

[โ€“] Parzivus@hexbear.net 9 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

It's gotta be said, Japan is really embracing all the shit that Fujimoto has been very firmly against. Like this is the guy who had a nuclear war set to the Star Spangled Banner in his manga and now the prime minister is kneeling to Trump and pledging to defend Taiwan. And she's pretty popular, even with young people! So he sees all that, on top of the fact that part 2 has never been as popular as part 1, and it's not too surprising he decided to end it.

I really do miss the early part 2 stuff, those first few Asa chapters are some of the funniest manga I've ever read. Fujimoto is a legend for "don't come to school tomorrow." But the direction has been pretty mediocre for a while now so it could just be burnout or a lack of good ideas as much as anything else. Idk, it was a fun ride.

[โ€“] hello_hello@hexbear.net 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Fujimoto saw Japan vote for real life Makima and decided that it's not worth it anymore.

[โ€“] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 7 points 2 hours ago

I would love to subscribe to Asa Starfish facts.

[โ€“] purpleworm@hexbear.net 3 points 2 hours ago

I feel like the actual end of the world would have been the most natural ending at this point (ignoring the direction of the final 2 chapters), but along with what everyone else mentioned, perhaps Fujimoto was tired of fans and editors wanting a happy ending where everything is fine and just said fuck it, here you go.

[โ€“] SmithrunHills@hexbear.net 6 points 3 hours ago

Okay I read it

That was like reading some kind of fixfic fanfiction. Everything's basically better than before, but in a very empty feel-good kinda sense.

With this in mind, I can only assume this means Fujimoto is hunkering down for a Part 3 in the future biaoqing-copium

[โ€“] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 6 points 4 hours ago

That was hilarious

[โ€“] abc@hexbear.net 1 points 2 hours ago
[โ€“] barrbaric@hexbear.net 9 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Well, that sure was an ending. Not the worst thing possible, I suppose, but I do still feel it kinda came out of nowhere.

[โ€“] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 10 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

I have to imagine Fujimoto wanted out of his contract or whatever, was kind of bored with Chainsaw Man, and totally burnt out from weekly releases. It wasn't a terrible ending, just not fleshed out and insanely quick. We were knee deep in the shit just two chapters ago, and then all of that is just gone and it's like "yeah it's over." Thematically it makes sense, so it's not awful or anything, just rather sad that it all just ends so quickly and there's little permanence or growth.

[โ€“] Rojo27@hexbear.net 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I don't even blame him for feeling that way. The manga industry really needs to change so that mangakas aren't literally killing themselves to keep up with these release schedules.

[โ€“] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 2 points 3 hours ago

100%, Chainsaw Man should just be like a monthly release or even longer. Honestly there's very few manga that could not be improved by only releasing volumes, no weekly releases at all. It's insane the industry as a whole still does weekly releases.

[โ€“] CriticalOtaku@hexbear.net 6 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (2 children)

I'm high on the copium that we'll eventually get a part 3 because it feels like the perfect Empire Strikes Back style ending for the second act in a story, with the setup being a kinda meta Eva-esque premise that we're stuck in the same story and need to get out/resolve it for real this time.

But as The End? Heeeeell naw

[โ€“] Parzivus@hexbear.net 3 points 3 hours ago

Idk if I want CSM to continue at this point. There's so much baggage now that unless Fujimoto has something very specific he wants to do with it, a fresh start might be more compelling.

[โ€“] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I think if 3 part does happen it will be after fugimoto takes a break and writers other stories.

[โ€“] CriticalOtaku@hexbear.net 3 points 4 hours ago

Oh yeah definitely, dude should take as long as he needs

[โ€“] hyperpoopsucks@hexbear.net 3 points 4 hours ago

Yeah summarizes my feelings for it. I reread the the first and last few chapters and I couldnt see other ways than roughly this. Wasnt the worst, wasnt the best. A solid shrug on my part.

[โ€“] hyperpoopsucks@hexbear.net 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I think no, and that's ok. I have made peace with that, lol.

[โ€“] Blep@hexbear.net 2 points 4 hours ago

I gotta sit my disappointment for a minute

[โ€“] SmithrunHills@hexbear.net 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

He just needs to show Denji gaining a final transformation and then using that to destroy the US and then we can talk

[โ€“] Blep@hexbear.net 6 points 5 hours ago

Idk the US was kind of thrashing him before he lost his powers, fights a nonstarter now.

[โ€“] Rojo27@hexbear.net 4 points 5 hours ago

Still sad its actually coming to an end nowdeeper-sadness
