It's time to update the HomePod Mini (and by extension, the HomePod).
There's no reason I shouldn't be able to use my HomePod Mini as a Bluetooth speaker. Or plug it directly into my iPhone, or at least my MacBook, and use it as a speaker for that device. But no, it requires WiFi. Which is fine, but it could also support Bluetooth or, I dunno, a direct wired connection.
As for Apple TV, at this point I kinda rather would have an M1 Mac mini (base model, with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage). I'll hook up my old Logitech K400, plug it up to my TV, and have ad-free YouTube via Firefox with uBlock Origin. In the words of that one guy from that one Count of Monte Cristo adaptation, how is this a bad plan?
I will never understand the appeal of buying a HomePod or HomePod mini.
Pretty convenient for audio streaming music around the house. Not much else really though
I currently have a HomePod mini on every floor that lets me use them as a PA system across the house. Works pretty sweet when I have to call the family for dinner time.
I call my family to dinner with “hey Siri, tell family dinner time” on my phone. All the phones and computers in the house light up with a notification, which is always enough to get people moving.
That’s great, but it doesn’t sound like a very common use case. I find most of the uses for homepods (like listening to music, or asking Siri questions) are already performed by the Apple Watch, the iPhone and the AppleTV.
