Project N.O.M.A.D. is a self-contained, offline-first knowledge and education server packed with critical tools, knowledge, and AI to keep you informed and empowered—anytime, anywhere.

🙄

P cool project. But the offline wikipedia, maps, khan academy, 'medical references, survival guides, ebooks' are the bulk of it, getting that stuff on media(USB sticks, external SSDs) and putting them in a bug out bag is what I'd recommend rather than or in addition to this. They're less likely to break, OS independent, easier to transfer than having it stored on a working machine

I feel like a locally run AI model dedicated to accessing your own pirated content is the one use case where AI doesn't earn an eyeroll

that's a fair position, I'd be a bigger fan if it included a regular search function in addition to it

I detest GenAI and the consequences of its development, but I have to admit I have vibe coded a couple automation scripts and a webpage. I took the AI output as a first draft and I've polished them. I only see AI as a intern in terms of competence. Good enough for simple tasks but you always need to coach it.

Need a version to install on old cell phones. Something portable, since it is called Project NOMAD.

sounds pretty interesting, i have to admit, but for the moment i don't have a beef pc to run the AI or enough disk space, i'll try to download it to get the basics if it's possible

the AI bit is basically a nice to have addon

Doesn't look like it has enough pirated books, and I don't want ollama on my pc.

But yeah, having a way for the AI to use local data is really good, but if you need a good offline database for "survival" it would be good to have some very big llms too, because even if takes days to get an answer/plan from them they could serve as a valuable "knowledgeable person" in such cases too.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to use AI to get a list of important books for "survival" and download it automatically...
