GrapheneOS will remain usable by anyone around the world without requiring personal information, identification or an account. GrapheneOS and our services will remain available internationally. If GrapheneOS devices can't be sold in a region due to their regulations, so be it.

Nice to have it in writing.

Agreed, although having it in writing may end up backfiring on the team because it will be used against them when the locations that have implemented such laws use it as evidence of why it should be banned.

My interpretation of what they put it writing is that that would fall under the "so be it" clause. 🤷‍♂️ Or as I like to call it, the fuggalldat section.

If GrapheneOS devices can’t be sold in a region due to their regulations, so be it.

I think you wouldn't be able to buy the device with GrapheneOS but you could install it yourself, so not a contradiction

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 5 points 2 months ago

No, you'll still be able to use it, you just might not be able to purchase devices with it preloaded (Motorola).

Usable and available aren't synonymous.

The question is, will the Google Play Store? Unfortunately there are still some things I need from there...

[–] generallynonsensical@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Aurora Store should still work. Which can be found on f-droid.

Aurora store a proxy for the Google play store

[–] mr_anny@sopuli.xyz -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well it uses the website and gathers needed stuff from there. No logins needed.

As long as google keeps the playstore website open, and it will, aurora works.

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 1 points 2 months ago

There are no logins needed now. If they implement agegating, there is no guarantee that will continue to be the case.

Google Play Compatability layer would be able to make a stub or overide the age API requests for the google apps.
