I think it's your right to steal literally any game or piece of media for a slew of reasons that there is no reason to get into.

That said, I can't imagine doing it for this game. The unique multi-player experience on its own was so fundamentally fascinating for the first one and I've heard the second game is just better in every way. I'm really looking forward to playing this one, and I don't mind shelling out to support the developer. They're not a small indie studio, really, but Kojima is doing such unique and consistently wonderful things with games, I really just wanna see more and more.

I played a few hours of the first one with a pirated copy and then immediately purchased it for the social aspect.

As long as there are no issues running it via Proton, I'm going to buy it tomorrow.

That being said, it's expensive and younger/broker me would pirate it. The first one was a great experience in every aspect and if the only way you can play is to pirate it, go for it.

Sadly they diluted the best social aspects of the first one to cater to the US dudebro thanks to the perceived poor sales of the original in the north american territory. Tamper your expectations if your passion from the game derives from the social aspect of it.

Can you elaborate? I played the first. What did they change?

More action based, more gun focus.
