It's super messed up but If they don't pass anything that'd still be an improvement compared to congress now.

I really hope they do more than nothing though.

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 month ago (3 children)

If they win and don’t loudly and publicly start undoing shit then voter turnout will be abysmal in 2028 and they’ll lose everything again.

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

yeah but they'll make a lot of money fundraising off of it which is their one true goal

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just according to Keikaku!

[–] Admax@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Translator note : Keikaku = plan

[–] crazycraw@crazypeople.online 4 points 1 month ago

they are the ones that peacefully handed over the keys. it's not turtles but bankrolled politicians all the wayyy ddooowwwwnnnnnnn.

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Not only will they not pass anything even remotely progressive they will completely fail to prosecute anyone who committed a crime, fail to revert any of the damage, and will beg for forgiveness from the right by offering infinite concessions

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

More likely than not, they'll become complicit in much of the Republican criminal enterprise by inertia. Then, their inability to roll back any of the deeply unpopular Republican positions will tank their own popularity. And finally, Republicans will come roaring back into office to be the Enthusiastic Fascist Party rather than the Reluctant Fascist Party.

But hey, DON'T SAY ANY OF THIS TOO LOUDLY. If people hear you casting dispersion on the liberal party, they might become sad. And if they become sad, they might not Vote Blue No Matter Who. And if they don't Vote Blue, Republicans will win. And then Republican Fascism will be YOUR FAULT!

I started tagging peoples usernames with different levels of shitlib from like baby shitlib to ultra shitlib and holy fuck do those people comment a lot. it's basically a wall of green usertags on basically every political post.

I'll take "fail to pass anything progressive" over "actively try to destroy the country with every bill" any day.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

This is why Republicans get free rein to actively destroy the country every four years.

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Could just stop letting them win altogether and just support progressive candidates in primaries, but I got sick of explaining this and just left the country. I'll be back if/when people figure out "let the republicans win" is not "fixing the democrats".

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Could just stop letting them win altogether

I don't think this is a question of "letting them win". Ds and Rs are the two wings of Capital. And like any good capitalist enterprise, the underlings must be made to fight it out to exhaustion in order for the master to maintain control.

If Dems ever actually obtained an FDR-style enduring majority, the capital class would have to bifricate the party in order to keep any populist movements held in check one against the other.

I got sick of explaining this and just left the country

Given what's been going down in damned near every major city in the country with ICE, I can hardly blame you. America's going to be drowning in blood before too long if shit keeps up the way it has been going. We're already treating civilians in Minneapolis like they're Turks or Egyptians. How long until we start treating them like Iraqis or Afghanis... or Iranians or Gazans?

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (4 children)

I look forward to hearing all their "olive branching" and trying to reach across the aisle and proceed to GET NOTHING DONE WHILE STILL MANAGING TO SUCK OFF THE PEDO PROTECTOR PARTY.

We do not want ANY olive branches. They proved who they are. Everything they ask for needs to be shot down immediately (aka vote no), just like they always do. Put them in the corner, shame every one of them that keeps their job.

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

There are a lot of Democrats that are not in any way progressive. For domestic issues there will always be a few that the GOP can count on to dissent and break the Democrat majority. For isreal-related there will be dozens beholden to AIPAC who will vote however the Israeli government wants.

This is the secondary danger of Trump being terrible: democratic party doesn't have to actually change or improve to win. They just have to exist.

[–] TrollTrollrolllol@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (5 children)

They pulled the olive branch from the dime, you better not offer up another fucking olive branch Dems. (but we all know you will because you still think unhinged MAGA voters will somehow come around)

I Just want to point out that those graphs are from a betting site and not some reputable survey

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

I trust the betting sites and the surveys about equally.

[–] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Honestly, for many things, betting sites are more reliable. But not for elections.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They won't push past the line of "normalcy" which is the same useless line we crossed on the way here. Fucking hell.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

If they don't impeach and prosecute with impunity, the whole effort is wasted. Everyone of relevance to the current administration needs to end up in jail by 2028. That's what we're voting for in November.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I'd say there is 99% chance they fuck up at every opportunity.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They could impeach, but there is no universe where he gets convicted in the Senate. They won't ever have enough votes for that. He could literally rape and murder a child on live TV and Republicans would just say "ehh, they were probably a liberal anyway so they deserve it."

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

They won’t push past the line of “normalcy”

It might not be an issue if the sitting party refuses to release the reins of power.

So much of the current political system works because the parties are joined at the hip. But as Trump leads the federal government into increasingly fascist forms, the leadership demonstrates itself significantly less willing to just go-along get-along with the historic Reagan Era neoliberal order.

Why relinquish your Congressional majority if Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries will let you keep it? Why abide by the legislative branch at all if you've got Palantir running the Treasury and Google/Microsoft running the Pentagon?

Even in bright blue states like Minnesota, the response to outright fascist takeover at the highest levels of government is to raise your fist in defiance and then... give up on your reelection campaign for governor.

This is a screenshot of a betting app. You can easily influence these numbers with large bets. This is just viral marketing masquerading as hopium

It’s not actually a poll or anything real…

the repubs have drawn us into the last three wars. the head of the repubs is joking about running a third term. he's sending federal agents into cities. he's turning other countries away from the dollar.

the last dem presidents might be too friendly with corporations, but it's them or losing America.

[–] AntonioAndolini@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The Democrats are losers. They will never do anything. Every opportunity that they have is wasted. Don't expect them to do anything. All those old 80 year Dems are just sitting on a pile of money, they don't give a fuck about anything the right does

[–] 7101334@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

What do you mean?! They allow us to pretend our country is merely dysfunctional instead of nakedly evil, thereby absolving us of any serious mandate to take action to protect our fellow man!

[–] quoll@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 month ago

some fuckstick will appear that blocks any kinda of meaningful progress, same story from lieberman to manchin, rinse and repeat

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can't wait to see the "whaaaaaat??" faces when they either notice that there won't be any elections, or if they are held, that they will massively lose them because of the wave of fraud from Republicans

Seriously, anyone believing that there will be a shit in power this November without a civil war type thing in between is dreaming

The fascists have power, they won't let go without a lot of blood (from others of course, the cowards aren't going to fight it themselves, doh)

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

Democrats are still led by Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries. There's nothing to worry about for the establishment.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Has anyone back tested polymarket?

[–] zzz711@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Even if the Dems do get control of the Senate there's still the matter of the filibuster unless they have 60+ seats which seems unlikely. Of course they could do away with the filibuster, but that also seems unlikely.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Winning by default and then thinking you must be doing the right thing
