General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

This is utterly stupid and I agree it needs to be highlighted however it's worth pointing out that a public consultation doesn't mean squat.

They're asking the general public if they think that VPNs should be regulated. They are not asking experts for feasibility studies. So even if we take it as red that this is 100% definitely going to happen, they are at stage -1 of the process right now, and we all know the speed which politics moves (continental drift in slow motion).

I would actually be perfectly prepared to put money on this not actually happening. Labour do not need more reasons for people to hate them.

Age checks on buying a VPN is probably how they'll move this forward. Same situation as the age checks in porn. Use a VPN to download a VPN.

There's no way, as the article says, to identify which traffic is a legit business on or a private one.

Also, I think, a proxy will achieve the same goal for appearing in another country. Sure it's not private but the gov are looking at VPN specifically.

Sure you could ban VPNs — just as easily as you could ban newspapers.
