KEY POINTS

Khamenei said the Strait of Hormuz must stay closed and that all U.S. military bases in the Middle East should shut immediately, warning of further attacks.

It’s Khamenei’s first public comments since being appointed as Iran’s supreme leader on March 9.

Oil prices extended gains following the comments.

You mean after we killed his father, friends, family members, and bombed his schools that he doesn't want to play ball? Odd.

Who even knows what the real goal is beyond some kind of resource theft / embezzlement / bribes.

Maybe the israelis want generalized instability and a disorganized government and military structure so they have one less threat in the region to their expansion plans.

The fact that Russia was immediately allowed to sell their sanctioned oil - at inflated prices - is suspicious

My brother, who is in the Air Force, told me that they are telling them this:

The Trump administration has failed to explain the goal of controlling the Straight of Hormuz. If we control the straight, we will control the flow of oil out of the middle east for the next 100 years before China does. China is not going electric as they claim and are just as dependent on oil as the US, so they planned to try to take the straight of Hormuz. We had to control it first.

I love my brother, but he's being spoon fed some straight up fucking bullshit.

"China is not going electric," their automobile industry says otherwise.

[–] FaygoRedPop@lemmy.world 1 points 12 minutes ago

That's what I told him. 50% of cars sold in China are electric.

The funny part is a lot of their oil dependence is because they’re building plastic crap for the US.

Conservative media keeps insisting he's dead, he doesn't exist, or he isn't really in charge.

There was definitely a sense that you could just decapitate the gerontocracy and seize control of the country at gunpoint, much like the US managed in Venezuela, Syria, and Libya. They had Reza Pahlavi all queued up like a next generation Ahmed Chalabi. It does not appear to have fallen out like they'd hoped.

So now Israel and the US are just bombing anything in the country that looks halfway valuable, pretty much out of spite.

What was that saying the west like to use all the time? Oh yeah....

We don't negotiate with terrorists
