Explanation: Mark Antony, one of Caesar's close allies, was considered crude and something of a boor by his fellow Romans, and never showed any hint of the genius - political, cultural, or military - that Caesar did. Yet after Caesar's death, Mark Antony managed to snare the extremely well-educated and cultured Egyptian queen Cleopatra first as his lover, then as his wife. One supposes she saw some manner of charm in him that his fellow Triumvirs lacked! Though Mark Antony was noted as having sexy legs, and wearing scandalously short tunics to show them off...

How short was scandalously short?

Here's a contemporary historical depiction of Marc Antony leaving the senate.

Above the knees was standard-length. I suppose one must use one's imagination as to exactly how far above that Mark Antony liked to show off...

Where are the screenshots from, Pug?

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Porco Rosso, if memory serves!

[–] damnthefilibuster@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Damn! Gotta go see that and Ponyo!

Porco Rosso is my favourite ghibli film. A lot of it is just miyazaki drawing gorgeous airplanes in gorgeous sky-scapes. Plus there's a pig!

There is a perplexingly large percentage of Japanese masters of art who make brilliant thought-provoking art as an excuse to draw their favourite vehicles. Mangakas doing faces in 4 lines and manually raytracing the reflections of the meticulously accurate headlights.

Akira Toriyama was able to draw maybe 2 unique humanoid faces, but that man could draw machines like no one else. Early Dragonball covers are mostly just the characters driving whatever car Toriyama was obsessing about that week.

The motorbikes in akira were incredible, i still only use motorbikes in cyberpunk 2077 because of that.

Akira Toriyama drew some badass vehicles especially in the OG Dragon Ball series. Some of the filler pages between chapters or volume covers were so damn cool.

Sand Land seemed like an excuse for him to draw goofy hyper-detailed tanks nonstop.

A flying pig, if I’m not wrong!

An anti-facist flying pig!
