On Piers Morgan Uncensored, Schlapp was part of a panel discussion about the war in Iran and the bombing of the girls’ school that killed an estimated 175 people (nearly all young children). Journalist Peter Beinart argued to host Morgan that the United States and Israel were to blame even if the school was somehow hit by an Iranian missile.

“We know that if the U.S. and Israel had not attacked a country that poses no serious threat to them—Israel has hundreds of nuclear weapons, America has thousands—that those girls would be alive,” Beinart said. Schlapp immediately jumped in.

“They’d be alive in a burqa,” Schlapp said, adding “this is … a barbaric society,” before Morgan cut in and asked him to “hang on.”

There are so many levels of racism here that I'm just aghast. Justification of child murder en masse, conflation of the burqa with all Muslim countries, and the sheer arrogance of an American calling Iran a "barbaric society."

White chauvinism (of any stripe) may just be the stupidest ideology ever wrought upon this godsforsaken planet. The idea that a civilization that was producing works of art and science while this idiot's ancestors were busy whacking each other over the head with swords and not bathing is the "barbaric" one is so easily disproven with even the most casual investigation.

I mean, I get what he was trying to say and where he's coming from, and it's still a fucked up and horrible take.

Is the Iranian regime totalitarian and ruthless, especially to women? Yes.

Did the US/Israel explode a bunch of school children? Yes.

These are both wrong and neither justifies the other. Exploded school children is a really bad time to interject with "whataboutisms".

I get the "logic" point he was trying to make. He's trying to say that "repression of women's rights is bad, mmmmkay" (which is really fucking rich coming from a fascist). Bringing it up as a "whataboutism" during a conversation about killing children is disgusting and deplorable.

You are correct, I did not. In order to avoid exposure to propaganda one needs to evaluate the source and the context for the material prior to consumption. Did I miss something relevant, insightful and informative in this particular instance? Maybe. It's a small price that I am willing to pay.

Ignorance is not strength. If you're so confident in your political stance you'd be able to identify the fallacies used in propaganda against it and not have to stick your head in the sand and avoid anything that might challenge your worldview in the slightest.

If every time I watched liberal/conservative media it threw me into a crisis regarding my socialist beliefs I wouldn't be a socialist no matter how hard I claim to be.

No, just that I try not to click on random YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Xitter, etc. when provided as "proof" because they tend to be shit. I do the same with comments from MAGA fascists.

If you (as in someone, not you specifically) want me to educate myself on something I might be ignorant about, tell me to look into that subject. Maybe provide one or to specific item to look into if you want, though not necessary, and let me go at it. Sending a single "gotcha" video or a video of some random influencer vomiting propaganda through the screen isn't going cut it. Single sourcing is a fast tract to propaganda brainwashing.

Totalitarianism as a concept was invented after WWII to equivalate fascism & communism. It’s anticommunist agitprop, a product of the Cold War.

No one’s going to deny that the Islamic Republic of Iran isn’t a model for gender equality, but 1) it’s not as bad as what our government & media claim, and 2) the only reason you bring it up at all is because of the last 25 years of Western propaganda, which began the moment its comprador Sha was overthrown. There are plenty of other states with worse treatment of women that our government & media seldom mention, because they’re not thorns in the side of imperialist states.

You’re doing the women being bombed right now no favors by parroting the bombers’ propaganda. It’s same bone-headed logic as condemning Hamas in the middle of a genocide.
