I am looking for a UI (web browser or app) to use on my Android phone that lets me access instagram, but which doesn't give me such easy access to reels and other video content. I am imagining something similar to Newpipe that uses a different UI to provide access to the same content, but which isn't such an attention trap.

Is there a reason that instagram and facebook have such curated experiences while youtube is able to get presented so differently by third party apps?

I've used MyInsta to disable reels

This is the one I'm using too. Now if only it had a setting to change the primary feed to "followed" or disable the suggested posts.

Edit: the revanced patch might work. It worked for aeroinsta.

Edit: it did not work on the unclone version and I can't figure out how to make revanced run on the clone apk

Just use revanced - it has a whole bunch of patches which specifically disables reels etc, in addition to blocking ads.

Would be interested too, or in bridges. I primarily am only there because of a few agencies that only have Insta, and family who refuse to use anything else. I never write anything and would love a way to read directly from somewhere else

i wouldn't trust any Instagram app other than instafel. it's the only one that's open source.
