Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

For me:

  • David Gant: Voice of Oswald of Carin in DS1 and Aldia in DS2. Both are fantastic performances. The ridiculous delivery of his lines as Oswald (It is only hUman to commit a sin…) and that laugh are top notch and the delivery of Aldia's speeches makes them really worth listening to, especially the leave ending speech.
  • Martha Mackintosh as Melina in Elden Ring: I very much enjoy her delivery of quest and lore dialogue and seek them out on almost every playthrough, but what really makes her one of my favorites is the Frenzy Flame Ending. Her quiet imploring as you near the Three Fingers, her condemnation when you accept the Flame and her fantastic delivery of the last line in the game after the ending, are all simply fantastic.
  • Richard Lintern as Igon in Shadow of the Erdtree. CURSE YOU BAYLE. Need I say more? Yes, I do. It’s not just his last speech that is fantastic. When you first find him on the path full of fury and regret, this performance makes you believe him, makes you immediately invested. His fury after the Drake fight makes you want to slay Bayle full of fury. This might be my favorite performance in a Souls game. And this is the first time Richard Lintern ever voice-acted in a Video Game!

His voice acting was so good that I immediately mercy-killed him to end his misery!

Whoever plays Goldmask delivers each performance as if it was their last

Yes, both "..." and "👆" are masterfully performed.

I'm baffled that nobody yet mentioned Patches voice actor, William Vanderpuye, who's continuing voicing one of the most iconic Fromsoft characters since the beginning of the souls series!

Also, I cannot not mention haunting Scottish accent of Ariandel's voice actor. In the intro cutscene for a Friede fight his line delivery is the second best moment for me: https://youtu.be/Cn4k2fc5syE

Most already mentioned but:

Ryan Gage as Micolash. Grandiose, theatrical, unhinged. But not one note, no. He'salso a whiny lil bitch when faced with his inevitable demise XD

Joseph Balderrama as Arlecchino in Lies of P.

You can tell this man was having so much fun in the recording booth

Tap for spoilerSpecially for the dlc.

Daniel Flynn. as Alfred im Bloodborne and Solaire in Dark Souls. his voice just exhudes charisma. He can be comforting and warm but also mad and twisted.

Jacqueline Boatswain as Eileen the crow in Bloodborne. The epitome of cool, calm, collected... But that facade is not impenetrable. And the accent? lovely.

Anthony Howell. As Morgott in Elden Ring, and Gepetto in Lies of P. such a powerful voice, Damn! Commanding but somewhat vulnerable as Morgott. There's lots of nuance in both of these performances.

And also yeah Richard Lintern as Igon. Dare I say, the most memorable acting in all of Elden Ring? Intense is an understatement.

I like the voice actor of Blaidd - seems like a fun guy judging by the couple videos I've seen him in.

I also like Eileen's voice actress. Her accent accentuates her not being from Yharnam quite well.

And also Anthony Howell who voiced Margit, Geppetto in Lies of P as well as Blade Phantom in First Berserker Khazan! Quite a range he has

I knew I heard Geppetto's voice somewhere before, but just couldn’t place it. He really has quite the range!

Blaidd's voice is so comfortable to listen to :)

Eileen makes me always think of her line: * A hunter must hunt.*
It's burnt in my brain in her voice.

I'm not into the whole voice acting thing, but when I swiped across your post I instsntly thought of Egon in Elden Ring.

The voice of Harros from Mortal Shell. In fact all the voice acting in that game is something special!
