I always joke with my wife that if she dies, I'm moving to Iceland. Her response was always that her European citizenship would not help me move there. Hope rises.

As someone who moved to Iceland from the EU. Since Iceland is in the EEA it has special priviledges for people who want want to move in from the EEA. People from the EEA are allowed to buy property, and if you have an address you are allowed to stay indefinitely.

I hope that for Iceland the priority will be for Icelanders, though. It's a small country and the linguistic and cultural diversity should be preserved through each region being able to retain those in good cooperation with each other.

Side question, but how is the bicycle infrastructure over there in Iceland?

Late reply, but it's pretty awful. It's getting somewhat better in Reykjavรญk, but the infrastructure has been wrecked by the US for their military bases back in the cold war. So everything is pretty much car centric.

Like with other car centric progressive cities, the people and city council are pushing pedestrian and bicycle friendly infrastructure, but are seeing heavy push back from car brained lobbyists.

Good urban planning and public transport are the main things I miss from the Netherlands, but I came for the nature and don't live near civilization.

Yeh, Reykjavรญk seemed like a nice place to me, though sadly still carcentric. I might go there in summer, but that's still uncertain. The NL aren't perfect, Swiss public transit might've it beat, but overall it's pretty good. I really miss the lack of nature, though.

The only country in Europe which, after the 2008 Crash, actually arrested the heads of the banks responsible.

Iceland joining the EU would actually IMPROVE the EU.

Don't underestimate the importance of fisheries to Iceland: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cod_Wars

One thing that's changed since the last time we were negotiating to join is that the UK is now out of the EU. This could make it much easier to reach an agreement about fisheries. So I guess some good may yet come of Brexit?

Go further back, and there was conflict with Spain and Portugal over the same fish.
