I wish both images were colour and/or the same contrast. It would make for a more genuine comparison.

It is in color. But maybe seawater changes color when mixed with the ashes of 20,000 children.
I think both are colored, the sea just is much darker
Edit: it might totally be contrast but maybe the dust and stuff darkened the water
