Hello! I'm looking for someone to talk to since I have been very lonely lately and most of my friends I cannot talk to online. If this is the wrong community, sorry, but it's the best I could find. I can delete this if needed.

Looking for SFW chat, no romance or anything, just someone to talk to. I'm a young adult with a lot of interests. I like coding, history, music, languages, cultures, and I'm interested in learning new things. I'm okay with chatting in comments or in PMs.

I will probably delete this in a few hours or whenever.

why are you looking for one peron to talk to. Just be active in coding, history, music, languages and culture communities. you will find other regulars like yourself over time.

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

At the time I was feeling very lonely and wanted to see if I could make new friends. With just posting to another community, it's more of a forum interacting than a more personal interacting, if that makes sense.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 11 hours ago

yeah I sorta get it. sorry did not notice it was from two days ago. still I think over time interacting with a community you can start to learn who some folks are and sorta form an organic bond that I think will be superior to just talking with someone to talk.

Are you coding/working on something currently?

Are you familiar with command line? Do you know Nushell?

I just code websites for fun. I'm working on one project (which I don't want to go into detail about or link because all of my friends know it and I don't want them to be able to connect me to this account) that is a satirical website and it's really fun to write for.

Yes I know command lines, I do not know Nushell, sorry.

Why would you want to delete your post? My self and other mods will monitor for bad actors.

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

Well just so that in the future I am not getting more DMs if I don't want. I don't know, I'm sorry, I can leave it up.

Just typed a whole fucking thing about how I've been away from these parts for a bit but am always down to meet new people etc etc, and then I accidentally backspaced out of it sooo anyway... my attention span is basically zero when it comes to group stuff but if you or anyone else wants to reach out, I'm very good at keeping up with one on one interactions, and I really do enjoy getting to know people. (General call, I moved across the country this past summer and am mostly good, but I definitely don't have my core local peeps that I did, and I certainly wouldn't mind some Internet friends.)

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Uf, sorry to hear that. I'm interested in getting more internet friends, too! What are some things you like?

I listed some of my interests in the post but I also really like reading and writing, nature, hiking, etc.

[–] rozwud@beehaw.org 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Also quite into music and hiking. I'm an elementary music teacher, and I really enjoy going to workshops and learning new things to bring into my classroom. I love going out for live music (just about any genre). I used to sing in a choir before I moved; might find a new one to join now that I've settled in here. I definitely need to find some new hiking and camping spots!

Traveling is a big passion of mine. With my summers off, I try to take a big trip every year. This year is going to be Scotland (maybe with some Ireland thrown in) and a side trip to Belgium for Tomorrowland. I went last year, thinking it would be a one time thing, but I had such an incredible time that I had to go back.

D&D is also a lot of fun. I have a group of friends that I play with online. We also have a group here, but scheduling with them has been especially difficult.

Hope you're having a good day!

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

OOh, that's really cool! I've never been to a concert, but I have been to theatre a couple times, and it was a wonderful experience. I haven't traveled much, which I'm sad about, I hope some day I can travel more. I have never played D&D (wanted to but I could never get a group) but it sounds so fun and I wish I could!

I am having a good day, thank you!

[–] rozwud@beehaw.org 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Nice, what did you see at the theater?

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I saw the Phantom of the Opera years back, as well as some smaller productions put on locally. What live music have you seen?

[–] rozwud@beehaw.org 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Nice, Phantom of the Opera was the first musical I ever saw on Broadway! I was pretty obsessed with it as kid. Haha a looooot. Mostly DJs lately, but I've been to some great rock shows over the years, Flamings Lips most recently. I really enjoy finding good local music. I had several friends in bands where I used to live, so it was a lot of fun coming out and supporting them and discovering new people I wouldn't have otherwise.

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 1 points 11 hours ago

That's awesome, good on you! I wish I had some local bands or musicians, but there's none that I know of, sadly.

[–] jay2@beehaw.org 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

True fact:: If you were to use a standard ordinary bricks to construct a circular 9" thick ring around the planet Earth using a straight version that measures 9x4.5x(3-3) in mathematical combination with a tapered version that measures 9x4.5x(3-2.75), you would only need a quantity of (113) tapered bricks to satisfy the angular change required to turn the 360 degree ring construct. The remaining quantity would be made up of straight non-tapered shapes.

Have a great night!

Fascinating! I understood none of that! :D

What places and time periods are you interested in particularly?

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

I've been previously into the Roman Empire and the World Wars, just like any history nerd has. I like the Austro-Hungarian Empire a lot, as well as now the Cold War, though I have some surface level knowledge on a lot of major global history events. What are you interested in?

[–] petrescatraian@libranet.de 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

@unknowablenight hi there! Don't think it's the wrong community 🙂 how are you?

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm alright, I have been feeling very lonely lately. How are you?

[–] petrescatraian@libranet.de 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

@unknowablenight eh, a bit of the opposite tbh. But still annoying when you don't manage to keep track of your hangouts properly

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ahh, I've been there. I'm sorry.

What are some things you like to do?

[–] petrescatraian@libranet.de 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Mostly collecting music on all sorts of formats, mainly vinyl and CD (besides digital). I also like photography (even though I barely had any time as of late). I do have a Canon DSLR that I'm playing around with.

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

I also like photography! I haven't started collecting physical music yet but I really want to. What music do you like? I have a camera but I can't remember what it is (it's an old digital camera my mum gave me).

[–] cephalopodfan@beehaw.org 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

@unknowablenight@piefed.social

Hi! I'm a professional tech nerd with coding background who is building a home media server and I'm pretty eclectic in my music tastes. I also game occasionally (BG3 and Cyberpunk 2077 were the last two I played through). Been scouring thrift stores lately for music and DVDs

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's really cool! I don't know that much about tech but I have been getting more interested and am trying to learn more. I can only code in HTML and some CSS and I like making silly websites. I play some games too, but not that often. I haven't started collecting physical music yet but I would like to soon.

My music tastes are also quite eclectic. What bands do you like?

[–] Kissaki@beehaw.org 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Would you like to link these silly websites? I like exploring silly websites.

I would like to but I'm quite self-conscious and I have showed most of my friends, and I don't want to trace that back to myself, sorry. If I ever make a new one I can share it though!

[–] cephalopodfan@beehaw.org 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

HTML is the first language I ever learned. We all have to start somewhere! Keep at it. Node.js and Python are on my list of things to learn but I only have so many brain cells in a given day it seems.

Lately my listening habits have been leaning pretty goth/darkwave. Vision Video is one of my favorites, they broke up last year but I'm eager to see what the members of the band come up with on the next thing. Been also listening to The Damned, Sisters of Mercy, Pink Turns Blue, Twin Tribes and Some Days are Darker.

What kind of media has had your interest lately?

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For music I like Rammstein, Die Ärzte, and Radio Tapok a lot! I like metal, but also a lot of other styles that I wouldn't even know how to explain (like whatever Tally Hall is). And thank you!

I've also been doing a lot of reading (and trying to do some writing). Currently reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I tried to continue writing the story I was writing yesterday, only to discover that for whatever reason it was just gone from my drive. All that work wasted! 😭

[–] cephalopodfan@beehaw.org 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Oh no! ☹️ How frustrating to loose all that work. I've been trying to get back into writing myself. I find my mind has adapted to technical writing for my professional life, but creative writing eludes me. I had a LiveJournal back in the day and maybe getting back to something like that might help. What kinds of stories do you like to write?

Which english translation are you reading? I haven't read Crime and Punishment but it's on my list.

[–] unknowablenight@piefed.social 1 points 16 hours ago

I become obsessed with OCs that I make and write about them. Usually Cold War espionage stories or something more casual but in a 60s or 70s setting in Europe. I find that that helps with my creativity, when it's something I really enjoy like characters I've made. I never had LiveJournal, though, embarrassing as it is to admit, fanfiction is what got me into creative writing, so that might help as well.

I'm reading the McDuff translation, it's really good, I recommend that.
