Assuming it even works in a practical sense, the only way that'll ever catch on is if they open the standard to third party manufacturers.

Didn't Motorola do this a long time ago? I seem to remember them having various camera attachments back in ~2017

Yeah that thing was very cool but unfortunately they did not have a ton of modules and it did not catch on. They were very smart to have pogo pins rather than the absolutely moronic "wireless" trash we have today. I can see something like this creating a whole new industry, if successful.

I have one of their phones of that time and a few modules. It was pretty neat. Don't remember what version of android it was but the Moto Z Play was giving me 2 days of active use even without using the battery pack. Then lenovo bought moto and the updates killed the battery life.
