Mark my words, this guy is going to be the president in 2032. Guy with a Nazi tattoo who has killed lots of innocent people in the third world AND constantly talks about economic populism. Personally I think there's a 50% chance he's a CIA spy but that's only going to help him get elected.

Looking forward to the Fetterman-style slide into being literally Hitler

The seeds for his "why I left the left" have already been planted:

Dem nominees have been trending that way

2008: Neolib masquerading as remotely left of center

2016: Open neolib

2020: Former conservative (seriously, Biden self describes as a Republican until Watergate)

2024: Former cop that imprisoned trans people in the prison of their birth gender

2028: Currently the guy larping as an open neoconservative that likes to sport hunt the homeless

If the trend holds, 2032 will probably be some sociopath that thinks we need to codify the 14 words

2020: 'Former' conservative (seriously, Biden self describes as a Republican until Watergate)

That ain't shit man, Hillary was touting her credentials as a "Goldwater girl". You know, openly declaring you weren't sold on civil rights.

I'd posit being an open conservative during the 60's was worse (especially since Joey B was so instrumental in killing desegregation bussing), but we're splitting turds here

Wait wait wait wait wait. We didn't destroy his career by pointing out the nazi tattoo?? He didn't destroy his own career by doubling down on it?????

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I would wager your average voter has never even heard that he has a nazi tattoo.

[–] Homer_Simpson@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I guess, but people have been taken down for less in the past.

Or they have and are okay with him just covering it up/the army allowing it/oh it's just a drunken mistake, how was he supposed to know.

So many people also saying well we had never known it was that so how was he supposed to know

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

A lot them have have probably seen a news headline or too saying that he doesn't though, and took it at face value.

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I saw him at least speak normally about Cuba recently. I hope he continues to grow in his anti imperialism. That being said, when elected he will be just as imperialist as the rest of them

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We can hope but isn't he still running on we need to expand the navy and use the military to do the stuff they use contractors for to save money?

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

I don't know, probably. I do know not long ago he was big on expanding our fleet to counter china and it's unlikely he moves to a more anti imperialist position if elected. Unless we can hit him with the reverse fetterman ray

[–] DerRedMax@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah they should all vote for Janet Mills!

Not sure honestly how this is going to shake out. Don’t underestimate mainers’ propensity to elect conservative dinosaurs with (D)s next to their names. Although Plattner’s events are well-attended, almost exclusively with elderly democrats. His half brother is friends with the president of israel or something. Maine democrats also don’t give a fuck about Gaza or Plattner’s record as a war criminal. They just want to defeat Collins, who is seemingly unstoppable.

I'm kinda curious what is going to happen. Nobody is paying attention to the primaries here yet. Old people also make up a huge chunk of the electorate. That 65+ demographic is disproportionately large and young people don't vote so it'll be interesting to see who wins that race.

Fortunately we've got someone running for governor who is genuinely pretty cool that is likely to get a bump from Platner so at least something good might come from his campaign.
