Banken, verzekeraars en pensioenfondsen zouden beter moeten samenwerken, maar ook moeten de regels voor bijvoorbeeld aanbestedingen worden aangepast.

Then stop forcing google play services...

A lot of Benelux banks require magisk and hiding that you aren't using a specific google branded android version if you use a community ROM.

I wrote to my country's competition authority but neither of us had required knowledge to fully understand the ask, they just pointed me toward the digital euro and wero whereas I was pushing for mandating alternatives to google and apple services to allow for contactless without their involvement.

i hated it so much. I wasn't able to pay few times because my phone couldn't pass integrity checks whenever Google pushed updates

Fine...

It will be EU Play Services.*

Happy Now??

*EU Play Services is a subsidiary of Alphabet in the EU for attesting apps on your Android smartphone, which is totally not funneling data to the government and USA.

thankfully, the EU is a bit better than that at making regulations

It took me 11 months to move away from all US tech and services personally. I have only 2 domains at namecheap and cloudflare for one service left. Everything else is done, I started out with a list that spanned 3 DIN A4 pages last year.

Also switched from Apple to Linux and iOS to Graphene OS.

Even if it were true, that would be no reason not to get started. Every bit of reduced dependency is good.

The feature parity and global distribution isn't there though. Sure you can make it work, but it's going to be a chunk of extra engineering on top of the switch.

Good luck to the exec pushing for that change in most financial institutions!

That said, I could see those trying to do multi cloud picking a European secondary.

Switching is how you get feature parity. Why would anyone contributing to FOSS be all "Oh I think I'll develop this one feature that no one but a few specific big banks want."

Just deal with it for now, and then put whatever money you previously put towards these expensive closed down services to developing what you need in the FOSS space. It's not complicated.

They need to make sure there are enough prisons and gallows for the people who caused this shit.

Dump all American products and services!

There is also this FD (Financial newspaper) article that covers the press conference:

DNB: financiรซle sector moet binnen vijf jaar minder afhankelijk zijn van VS
(link to archived version: https://archive.is/FsnM7)

It doesn't say that much more than the NOS article, but here is their summary (translated by Deepl):

In brief

  • DNB warns of the risks associated with dependence on American IT service providers.
  • The regulator wants financial institutions to take responsibility.
  • Flexible contracts and joint procurement, among other measures, should help to reduce dependence.

As a bank, we're currently migrating from on-prem to cloud.

Google and Azure ofc

Same in large fintech company...

5 years seems like a very long time... are these groups not aware of the impending implosion of the AI market?

[โ€“] uberdroog@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Where is this crowd sourced list? I don't have time.

[โ€“] myrmidex@belgae.social -1 points 5 days ago

No list it seems, no study, this guy is just pulling things out of his ass.
