Law 1: stop posting at the nazi bar

[–] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In the nicest way possible, it's extremely naive to expect that the law makers currently benefitting from this wave of facism are going to make laws that actively hinder them from doing so.

You need a much more honest and socialist government before you get anything close to this ideal.

Before even that, laws don't stop fascism. if they did, we wouldn't be where we are today.

You need a critical mass of fascists in power to start ignoring the laws like they are. These, if managed to pass, would prevent a lot of them from getting and staying in to begin with, if properly enforced.

It's not a magic fix on it's own, but it's a necessary preventative measure.

Overturning Citizens United would be a fantastic start.

[–] o0barkbarkbark0o@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yes, it would.

Spread the word!

These are well done. This gives state lawmakers the chance to either support common sense changes or go on record supporting fascism. Even in a red state like mine, I could see enough disgruntled Republicans supporting these to pass them. If they have souls, anyway.

So, after reading through it; it's a clever idea. One that I think is ultimately fruitless, for the most part. For one, the federal government holds higher authority than the state. Things will end up drug out in court for so long, there'll have been at least two elections. As far as the PAC stuff goes, what's to prevent a corporation from taking the hit on tax breaks and incentives, to far out fund their puppet politician's opposition and just become the new cost of business? It seems like you could create a brand new power disparity with that. We need action, far faster, than state level legislation can give us. How many of these will die in sub committees? We need to turn the midterms, priority one. Full stop. Nothing else matters until you have the right people at the federal level now.
