Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat running for Senate in Texas, wants people to know she isn’t taking corporate PAC money — in her Senate campaign.

“In this Senate race I have not taken any corporate PAC money,” Crockett told the Texas journalist Tashara Parker last month. “People don’t know that because my report hasn’t come out yet. But they will.”

But according to her most recent campaign filings, Crockett has a loophole that lets her use corporate PAC money to help fuel her Senate run — by transferring it from her House campaign.

Crockett’s latest filings with the Federal Election Commission show that she transferred at least $26,500 in donations from corporate PACs — including those representing CVS, Home Depot, AT&T, and Wells Fargo — from her House campaign to her Senate campaign on December 19.

“It relies on technicality that you can say ‘I’m not accepting contributions to my Senate campaign from corporate PACs,’” said Brendan Glavin, director of insights at the government transparency group OpenSecrets. “But they can’t say that there’s no corporate money flowing through her Senate campaign, because it’s obviously not true.”

CVS, Home Depot, AT&T, and Wells Fargo

If she was gonna do their bidding they'd have paid her more.

Eh, small potatoes. Average winning senate race in 2022 was over $25 million: https://www.opensecrets.org/elections-overview/election-trends

I'm not sure using a small amount of leftover money from a previous house run is all that big a deal. Or a sign of her ideology being corrupted.

I'd say it's pretty big potatoes actually. She's running in a primary against someone who actually doesn't take corporate money. Someone who's running way to the left of her. So I think it's pretty freaking important.

She’s also running against someone who actually has a shot at beating Cornyn or Paxton. If she manages to win the primary, she’ll lose to one of those two.

Talarico? Is that accurate that he's way to the left of her? Or is there another candidate in that race?

Hes very much left of her.

Guess I'll take everyone's word for it. I've duck duck went here and there and can't find anything concrete to support that claim.

He did take PAC money from a Trump supporter (Miriam Adelson) because they both want legal gambling in Texas. I'm not sure that's any better than Crockett's shifted money from her house race.

Though to be clear I'm happy to see either one of them win the senate race here. And I like Talarico's focus on class warfare, as well as his potential ability to draw Christians that need an excuse to vote dem.

I just don't see any public stances where one of them is obviously further left to a large degree.

Sounds like some real left wing grass roots agitation you're spreading. How clean do you need the bath water to be?

Take as much as you want. Just hold true to your values, even if that means they won’t contribute again in the future.
