That's fine because cost of living keeps going shown and we're all totally not going to get royally fucked up.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that 2031 is the year the youngest Baby Boomers become eligible for full Social Security benefits, and this isn't yet another example of the boomer generation pulling up that ladder behind themselves.

Think of it this way, they will procrastinate long enough to where they won't have full control of the government anymore and perhaps the next generation can teach them a lesson in bootstraps and how to pull them up.

Social Security is easily the simplest problem in the country to solve. Just raise the income cap. It's around $170K now, just raise it to $250k, or $500k, or whatever some smart statistician (not MAGA, they can't do math) determines.

It's really as easy as that. Some higher income people are going to complain, but who cares?

The problem with it is that they'll just keep stealing from it. The fund was fine where it was, the problem was that the gov doesn't know how to properly spend the money it gets.

Or...as the GOP prefers, we have a ton of outgroups who pay into the system for life, then get deported or murdered before collecting. Combined with slave labor, and a few distasteful pogroms it just might work.

Even 15 years ago it was already predicted to run into the red by around 2030. I'm impressed it's still true and not gotten worse.
